Heater Issues

Featured Replies

Drove from East Anglia to Teeside on friday in the wifes Fabia SDI Comfort and after an hour or so the heater sort of stopped working!!!!!!

Fans worked on all speeds as I could hear them, heat worked but the heat wasnt coming out of the vents (any of them), I tried moving the postion knob but nothing.

Stopped at services for my 4 yr old to take a leak got back in car and it worked again. Didnt happen again till today.

On the way home and it did it again exactly the same except for it went off again and then came on again of its own accord and then went again after about half an hour.

Now I could live with the no heating as the boy had a blanket the wife put my coat on her lap, the thing is I couldnt get no air on the winsdcreen and we were steaming up LOL

So what do you guys think could be up?

Thanks in advance.

P.S bet when I get in it tommorow it will be ok again but would like some ideas where to start looking before it happens again.

Either blocked pollen filter or plenum chamber.

Thanks.

where would these be located?

Thanks.

where would these be located?

Pollen filter left hand side of centre column(radio, cup holder/open space, front of ash tray) slide two bars down to release it, renew or clean and replace if short of the readies

Plenum OPEN bonnet and it is the chambers below the wiper blades where water and debris drains away

the pollen filter im presuming is inside the car under a panel ? cant see any bars to slide. Anyone got a picture of location.

Not quite sure from the description given, but another possibility is that the heater flap motors are playing up. The reason I suggest this is that the fault's intermittent, but with the flap motors, the problem usually presents as there being no 'control' over the heat coming into the car (i.e. either freezing or roasting, but nothing in-between). Sounds like you're getting no air at all, though, but if it was a blockage somewhere, you'd expect the problem to be persistent...

In terms of the air position control, this is a mechanical linkage (the flap motors are controlled electronically), so it's also something I'd expect either to work fine or not work at all, rather than some times but not others...

It's in the passenger foot-well, under the glove box (on the right-hand side). Should be fairly easy to spot (it's a long, thin, slotty thing, maybe 6" long, 1" wide, with 2 sliding locks). :)
