maxidot what is it and what can it do

I think its overrated.

It probably is overrated but looks alot more appealing than the horrible looking half screen, looks like something out of a 98 golf

I think its overrated.

Possibly not if it's used in conjunction with a multi-function steering wheel (I'm hoping)

True, but the FL Octavia doesn't get the half screen, it's gets a full size panel there, looks ok, just doesn't have the setup menu that Maxidot has...

Mine was ex demo that came with the maxi-dot, I wouldn't have ordered it if I'd have bought brand new as I didn't know what it was or what it could do; if I was buying now it'd certainly be on the list of extras; it looks a lot better and has some nice functions.

Ditto the above - had it on an ex-demo car and love it. Just ordered it on my new car (though I also wanted the MFSW and maxi-dot comes as standard with that). Basically a lot of those settings which you would otherwise have to adjust at the dealer or use vagcom/vcds (is that right?), you can do straight from maxi dot. It comes in to its own the more stuff you have on the car though. Maxidot on a basic S model might not make as much sense as it would on a fully specced out Elegance.

It is something to play with while waiting for SWMBO...

"I'll only be 5 minutes in Tesco's (Yeah right !)/Superdrug/Boots/Flower Shop etc etc.

My L&K Octavia estate's display, between the two dials, is a full one. What i mean is, half of it is not covered by plastic. Does this mean i have maxidot without knowing it ? Or can you still get a full display and not have maxidot ?

Cheers,

Paul

How old is your L & K ?

If it's a pre-facelift Mk 2 it's a maxidot, if it's a facelift it could be either

That's when you need an MFD3 so that you can watch a DVD

I got it as an extra for my Elegance, but only because it was included with the steering wheel with the radio controls on. Having said that, it is a nice addition to the car. I only wish it did more in conjunction with the Bolero. Specifically I'd like to be able to browse for music on my iPod via the MDI. That would be amazing from both a usability and safety point of view.

I wondered what this was, & now I know.

£495 for Blue tooth & a bigger MFD is a bit rich IMO, I ticked the same box on my Leon & it cost £250 & the bigger MFD was part of the BT upgrade.

TBH, I think I can live with out it, being able to change the time your lights stay on & changing the clock form 12/24hr isnt worth that much.

It's a pre-facelift model....

People have been known to change their car because it never had maxi-dot....

So my Jan 07 L&K has maxidot then ?

Sounds like it. Do you get a picture of the car on the display? For example, Maxidot shows which door is open whereas non maxidot just has a light telling you a door is open...

Ye, pic of car on the display showing what door is open.

Well thats a bonus, I have maxidot and i didnt know it. Just need to sell my MDF2 now and get a Columbus or Kenwood head unit.
