Tyres for my vrs

Featured Replies

I'm going to be replacing all 4 tyres in the very near future and just wondering what you guys that have been in vrs ownership for a while recommend. Tyres like khumo ecsta are a cheapish tyres and are meant to be quite good (some people have them on their civic type r).

So, please post your thoughts please.

Hi Brian,

If you use the search it will bring up lots about tyres.

I have Toyo's fitted to my car, can't rate them highly enough for the price (£75 each fitted). I had the Khumo Ecsta's on my car when I bought it, thought they were ok, but the sidewalls were a bit soft.

Si.

Hello

What tyres to fit is an open ended question.

Winter OR summer tyres, what shape your finances are, what the prettiest tyre pattern is, that attract you??

What sort of mileage you are looking for ( I've had cheapies and Conti's no difference here,) fronts 15,000miles rears 40,000miles.

Good luck

I have just ordered 2 Pirelli P Zero Nero 205/45 R16 W from blackcircles for £148.80 fitted.

Had Toyo Proxes T1 last time which lasted about 10k, but couldn't find them as cheap this time around so went for the Pirellis for a change.

Personally I put cheaper tyres on the back, but i'm not sure that's the right thing to do.

I just replaced all four with Firenza st-08, the same was on the spare when I got it and the Skoda dealers seemed to think Skoda fitted on the spare from new. I was sceptical as had never heard of them before but did some research and they seemed to get quite good reviews. I paid £188 for all 4 that includes delivery and fitting at a local garage. Only done about 400 miles on them but seem very good so far in wet, dry and snowy conditions. Got them from 'The Tyre Depot' in North Yorkshire.

T1-R's

£53 a corner. Dont last long, but damn good at 2nd gear launches :D

Maybe controversial but i really cant find a better tyre than the Goodyear GSD3. I know its poor in the snow but any road tyre will struggle

Mega wet and dry grip, sidewalls not to soft and last 20k on the fronts which i pretty good going for 300lbs of torque

I've got GSD3's on my VRS and GSD2's on the gf's VRS. They good in dry and good in the wet. Look to last quite well too.

Absolutely awful in the snow. Before the gf's car goes in for MOT i'm going to put some Uniroyal's on to see how good they really are!

I had bridgestones on the front + rear (poss from new) and they were ****. Noisy and no grip. Got the dealer to swop fronts to Mich at point of sales as I like mIchelins and they were and still are good. 10k and only down by 2mm.

Replaced the rear b/stone with Pirelli P Zero as the Michelins on factory back order. Got mine from the tyre depot for £65 + VAT each (not fitted)

Cost me £20 to get them fitted -> robbery!

P zeros have a nice tread pattern too ;) if youre into that sort of thing!

Would advise anything but the bridgestones, they really were that bad.

Si

Ive got Uniroyal rainsport 2's . They are great in wet and dry but mpg seems a bit down...

Anyone tried Maxxis, they are cheap but ive seen some good reviews?

+1 for uniroyal rainsport 2's

The one thing I would say about the Bridgestones I had on from new was that they lasted well. I was on the fixed price servicing package and the rears were only replaced (at something like 60,000 miles) after one developed a bulge in the sidewall. I think I paid 50% to have the other one swapped as well or VW Financial Services were going to put the spare on the other one and I would have had a part-worn spare ie. 3 x Continental and 1 x Bridgestone. Even the tyre fitters said to them they wouldn't do it...

I've had excellent longevity from Continentals and I always feel that £53 for a tyre that will last 10,000 miles or £106 for a tyre that will last 20,000 miles is worth paying more just because I don't enjoy sitting in the tyre fitting bay for an hour.

I think that grip, noise and other non-measurables are just that - non-measurable opinions. Things I can measure (MPG, longevity) lead me to consistently buy Continentals for all my cars.

Another vote for uniroyal rainsport 2's here.....

Vredstein = Best tyre i have ever had. I know a lot of people who have recently put these tyres on and they are amazing!

As I've said before, "You will struggle to find a better tyre in the wet than Uniroyal Rain Masters (rainsports) "

Unbelievable grip in the wet, equally as good in the dry
