It's an oil cooler! Just happens to be in more or less the same spot! ;)

One item from todays work done - Will lob the rest in the blog later.:thumbup:

Tidy

Has your oil been too hot?

  • Author

It gets quite warm on track, so this is precautionary. It also could have contributed to my VT5 failure on the Ring, so this is being fitted to ensure my oil never gets overly hot again. :)

Jason, how are you going to calculate your revised dip stick oil level?

Easy enough when it sits below the oil level line........

It will need slightly overfilling. :) The pipework and cooler will not take up that much in volume terms - I estimate about 200ml when full. Only needed about 70cm of the rubber pipe for the 2 connections and I doubt the volume of the cooler is massive.

Should that be an SMOC as it's an oil cooler.

Or are you putting that in front and having a side Inter-cooler, I can't tell from the picture?

Also where is your blog, I can't find it from your profile?

Will be in "BLOGS" link in grey at the top - mine should be the latest entry,

I have a front mounted cooler, so no need to worry about side mounted one. Amazing how much room there is once the side mounted IC is away. I even found the bracket for the side mount still attached to the chassis so that was unbolted to save a few grams :D

how much is one of them then jase

Sandwich plate roughly £40 Cooler roughly £60, fittings around a tenner - Labour & time to fit to custom mounting location.... Well.... We'll see :D

Looks a nice bit of fabrication J

Alexmechanic will be very happy to read that! Although I like to think I had around a 5% input into it. I did spray the backing plate black, and sprayed a bit of the chassis which was angle grinded out to allow the cooler to fit snugly.
