Uncomfortable seats - How do you set yours up?

Featured Replies

My back is pretty knackered, and as I have a 1 hour drive to and from work every day, the seats are giving me a lot of pain. Even though I am quite tall, I recently started adjusting the height of the seat as it changes the angle from deck chair to a more upright position. This has given me a more comfortable position, but I notice after a few drives the seats have returned to the bottom again, is this normal or is my height adjuster broken?

It's really uncomfortable for me, I wonder if it is worth looking at replacing them with something else.

Once the mechanism is set it shouldn't move, my height settings stayed the same on my Elegance before I changed to an L&K.

I am 6.2 and suffer from a bad back and Sciatica off and on, I have the seat as low as it goes and the lumbar support as far out as it goes, the result isn’t bad but I still shuffle about on long runs, my old Fabia vRS had more comfy seats but a stupid colour sadly.

I'm 6ft and also have a bad back, I've found the octy seats to be pretty good. I have it set such that I'm sitting reasonably upright and not too far back with no lumbar support (else its aggrivates my sciatica). I've found the height after you've set it can drop a little bit, but not a lot. If yours is dropping a lot then its definatly not right. One thing I have found though is getting out the car, on the odd occasion I've caught the height adjuster just knocking it down a tad.

I don't have a bad back, but after having the Fl for about 2 months I'm still shuffling around. I have the back fairly straight, with very little lumber. I have the height mid range but I find at the end of the day, it can feel the seat has dropped esp if your "looking" for it. I think this is normal as your back is more upright first thing in the day.

I also think that for a given amount of downwards adjustment, it needs more "pump" to bring it up. Try folding up a cloth and popping it under the adjuster to rule out that being knocked.

I also found the steering wheel could do with more foward adjustment, it feels like I am having to strech too much and I feel too far away from it. Maybe raising the seat might help if it alters the angle as well as height??

Without the lumbar support the Octy seats would be so bad I would have to buy (another car)

I too have a bad back am 6 foot 4 and have the seat about half a push of the lever from the floor, think i got lucky and got the seat into a comfy position pretty much from day one, the only thing i had to adjust was the head restraint as it was pushing my head forward and making my back ache (odly enough) also the lumber support is only just out think its probably about half a turn of the knob. Have to say its much more comfortable than my previous IS220D lexus.

Mine never moves at all so maybe yours is broken??

Dug this old thread up as I noticed mine seems to sink, I have one pump to get it up but a few days later I notice its dropped down. I have propped up the lever to see if I'm knocking it.

I find the seats the most uncomfortable ever,

but I still put up with them for some reason.......

Even the Fabia is better for me + the motor bike......

I've found that my drivers seat drops quite a lot on my Elegance, and every other day, need to pump it back up again.

But I found it's nothing wrong with the seat itself -- it's me! Whenever I get out of the car, the back of my thigh presses the height lever down slightly, and therefore each time I get out, the seat lowers a little bit!

Have a look at this -- I'll bet the same is happening with yours --and trust me, you'll feel really silly when you realise that there actually isn't anything wrong with the car at all! Bringing the seat height back to where it should be is just part of the joy of driving an Octavia now.

Exactly the same for me! I think this is exacerbated by the fact that I park on a drive, so getting out is a little trickier.

I'd recommend moving the steering wheel as close as possible so that your arms can reach the top of the wheel without streching.

A 10-20 degree angle is usually recommended for seat angle. I tend to adust this depending on what clothing I have on, and if I have a jacket etc.

The seat should be forwards so that your legs are bent, not too much though.

The aim is for your body to not have to stretch too much to reach all the bits you regularly need to control.

I hope this helps, I know how much a 1hr + each way drive can muck up your back. Do you suffer from stiff feet at all?

D

Thank god for that -- I was beginning to think it was just me -- being a short-**** my seat is normally set quite high up!

As far as driving comfort goes, I've no complaints at all about the Octavia seats.

Mike

I too suffer from being a short ****!

I love the Octy seats, in this and the Mk1 I used to have :)

I do find the seats uncomfortable but only in one sense. The seat I think is fine but I find the headrest pushes my head too far forward in most of the seat positions which makes my neck uncomfortable.
