Dropping Windows

Featured Replies

A friend of mine has just told me that his wife was driving down a motorway when he tried to raise the passenger window (electric) after an interesting crunch the window dropped completely down - the AA man said he'd seen this on other Furbys and polos - my boss added that he's also heard it about Furbys and Octavias - does anyone know anything about this apparently known problem - is there a mod?

Sounds like the regulator cable or the plastic guides on the cable have given up.

Has been known...lol.

Happened on my Octavia vRS, rear drivers side. We have 4 electric windows don't you know ;)

Steve

It happens on manual windows aswell...lol

On an 18 month year old car??

Am I expecting too much?

This also happens on Mk4 Golfs. VW do a "Regulator Repair Kit" (p/n 1JE898099) as it's a known fault, but you have to buy it  , obviously poor design somewhere. The Kit costs

Sorry, I don't exactly know, but I seem to remember something about the screws not being strong enough on the "lifter", so it could consist of a few new screws and maybe a revised lifter.

My left rear electric window on the Fabia always made a slight scraping noise, and garage replaced the regulators on the windows to stop problems.

Failing regulators/cables are a VAG quirk, from the Fabia to the Audi A8.

The Golf is different to the Octavia, but both do the same thing. Personally I dont bother with the repair kits, just get a modded anclilleries carrier, its only about
