Xenons or not?

Featured Replies

Hi

my current pre FL VRS has xenons but I haven't driven a FL VRS in the dark and before I try and get the Xenons added to my new FL order I just wondered are the standard lights that much worse/different especially for the cost of upgrading?

Also does anyone know if the options are VAT free too?

Cheers

Thanks I have just added them to my order and got my build date too WEEK 16 so I should have it with me by end of May

Yep, well worth it in my book

When I spec'd my car i was not 100% sure due to the cost - in the end i DID include them and now I have the car I'm glad I did.

going from a non-xenon fabia vrs the octavia I can say yes they are!! As for the VAT free on the options, I'm fairly sure they have the same discount as the car which is the "VAT DISCOUNT"

IMO its pros & cons. When we had 2 Mk 1 Octys at the same time, one with Xenons. I felt the Xenons gave a better spread close to the car but lacked penetration at speed, the Other car was no better at speed but once I fitted Rally Bulbs it was far better at speed & the spread close was probably as good. I appreciate higher wattage bulbs are not legal but seeing the number of cars every night with defective lights I guess plod probably consider having 2 working lights a bonus

The big downer came when we had a bump in the car with Xenons, the lights at £550 each ( + bulb) pushed the car from marginal to being totalled.

Ive just ordered a new Octy & havent bothered with the Xenons

I think the vast majority of people would say that once you've driven a car with xenons at night, its hard to go back to halogens !

That said I do think halogens are far superior to what they used to be.

I've had xenons on the last 4 cars now and its the first thing I notice when I get in a car at night that doesn't have them.

Beam pattern/ light spread is far better with them.

I'm just lucky I have found a £6k Octavia with them fitted. :-)

Yes for Vat free & I'd say the Xenons are well worth the outlay...they do give a much wider spread at low/mid spead and as you speed up they alter to give more length. The cornering is very good...you can really see them move over down a dark twisty road.

so what about a hid kit as an option once you have got the car,a fraction of the xenon price, not sure what these are like but iam looking along this route as ive got a vrs here for march 1st and didnt go for the xenon option

I would have to agree having had Xenon's on my last two Octys I wouldn't be without them and are on the top of my list of extras as a must have for any new Car I am to get.

I have especially noticed the difference and have missed them greatly as my car has been in the Dealers for repair the last 5 weeks, and I have been driving around in an Octy with standard headlights. Driving early morning and evenings to the tune of 1,500 miles.

It would be interesting if you could retrofit legal xenons at a reasonable price, but the work and effort probably wouldn't be worth it.

I have to agree with the standard lights though, on dark motorways then can leave you guessing whilst overtaking. As your wanting to look further ahead.

But i may have mine adjusted too far down, i think of myself as one of the individuals that hates other peoples misaligned headlights. I try to adjust mine to a suitable position as to not blind people.

I've never had xenons, so can't say what I'm actually missing.

I do however run Phillips X-Tremes in my standard halogens, and for the amount of night driving I do they are absolutely fine, and certainly far better than the standard bulbs  Cost - less than £30 for a pair from Powerbulbs, with the free blue sidelight bulbs thrown in for free (don't forget to claim your 15% Brisky discount)

hi there, is there a code for the 15% brisky discount?

Who misses real sex really badly if he had masturbation only so far.

The option came with corner lights and waterlevel indication (correct?).

With rebate and the plus of value and safety it is a no brainer for a car which costs 14K+

Xenon is factory fitted in Germany with VRS .

Sorry but just don't get the xenon thing - £600 for some slightly brighter lights and then only on dip beam ! Standard lights are fine.

Not slightly brighter............3X brighter and they turn with the steering wheel

I think they are worth it

ppl pay hundreds of extra pounds for bigger rims which they do not even see during their (harsh) ride. :D

so its ignorant³ arguing like that.

VRS with DSG and 170 HP would lie like lead on the shelves in Germany without Xenon. Xenon is a minimum requirement for an acceptance as a car above average.

  • 1 month later...

I know very little about Xenons, but can you get different brightness of aftermarket HID kits?

No sorry but I'd have them again. Each to their own I know, but...
