vRS TDI Fabia - how reliable are they?

Featured Replies

hey gang hope yer all well.

ed here, 25 living in dusseldorf germany, but from cork, ireland originally.

I am looking at buying a fabia vrs, but want to find out how reliable they are first.

I heard of people with the 1.9 tdi pd 130 bhp 5 speed passat having to replace the flywheel after 40k mls or so - does this issue effect the vrs fabia as well?

is the fuel economy really as good as the figures provided by skoda - talking about a standard vrs now, with no mods done.

thanks very much

ed

HI,

As far as I know they're very reliable - i've only had mine just over a month so can't really tell you from personal expierience, but it seems that yes, they are reliable.

As far as fuel economy goes, they're pretty damn good if you drive it correctly - obviously if you're giving it beans all the time you're not going to see 55mpg, but if you tickle it everywhere (according to the trip computer) you can see around 60MPG. Mixture of driving I tend to average around 48-50MPG, and booting it 25-30MPG

And no,. i've never heard of that flywheel fault, since Fabia's are 6speed i'd imagine they use different parts

stock rubbery bits are a bit weak, especially around the front wishbones and engine mounts

Clutch/Flywheel/gearbox/engine etc. seem to be fine... after a year or so on these forums is definitely not many reported engine problems compared to other forums. Some turbo related issues, but normally on remapped or higher milage cars

Clutch/Flywheel can take a battering if you decide to, or buy a remapped vrs but then it depends on driving style and the map

Rear doors leak in heavy rain, but very easy to fix

Sure there used to be a common issues sticky, but its gone!

Just make sure you buy one with a good service history (every 10k or 1 year) and if its old enough, has had the cam belt replaced at 60k or 4 years

I got (according to the trip computer) 65.5 average MPG last night on my journey to work which has been my best MPG yet (16 miles, 12 of which are motorway where I put the cruise control on at 60mph). Was hoping to get to 66.6 just to prove that diesel is the fuel of satan  but didn't quite make it.

Very reliable especially if you leave them as standard. A lot of them get modified to hell by people with no clue about power/chassis/suspension setups. My advice would be buy a standard one and leave it alone. If you need/want something faster, buy a faster car in the first place.

Or maybe if you want to mod it, do it proper and ask and listen to advice, nothing wrong with improving one a little at all, and it doesnt make it unreliable if you use the correct methods!

Probably the single greatest post in the history of this board – IMHO.

Hahaha...

Update - I got 66.9 MPG on way to work yesterday! Drove with cruise on at 58mph instead of 60. When I got to work I left the engine running for a bit so the average MPG would drop to 66.6 and I could take a little photo of the elusive figure... it dropped from 66.9 to 66.8 then to 66.7... I held my breath and prepared my mobile phone camera................................... and the figure then dropped two tenths of a MPG to 66.5, skipping out 66.6 altogether, hahaha! Gutted. Maybe Satan isn't in my engine after all...

Best post in the history of the Internet.

Alright, stop jizzing over one post & get back on topci!?!

^^ :giggle:

So in short, yes, reliable. like all cars though, buy a dog and you`ll have problems.

   Might get a T-Shirt made...

Hi, i cant speak for everyone as you can always get a lemon, but i have had my car for 3 years, and it was owned by my friend for 2 years previous to that, and in that time it has only had a radiator, plus wearables such as breaks etc... and feels as smooth as ever, its now just gone through 113k.

Get one but if i were you go for a standard, well loved one, then start modding if you feel the need, then you can only blame yourself if it goes wrong :-)

Personally i agree with the previous post about if you want a faster car get one, but each to there own.

   Might get a T-Shirt made...
