Sky+ box woes

Featured Replies

My original PACE 20GB Sky+ box lasted just 14 months before the HD failed. The replacement was a new PACE 40GB box fitted by a Sky engineer in July for the standard

screw ntl, sky is soooo much better. just go back to sky's poor man version

why dont you upgrade the hard disk yourself you can get a 160 gig for about

The hard drive tends to fail prematurely because when you are watching sky the HD is constantly reading/writing, far more data than real world computing requires causing undue stress on the components. Looking back at your first failure I would have replaced the disk with a bigger one rather than enter the unknown with a new box. The failure with this one sounds like LNB problems outside on the dish rather than the box, perhaps the cold weather lastnight induced some kind of failure. The other box will still work because each box has its own LNB on the dish.

Doesn't the Line 2 signal on the main box come from the same source as the second box, Manny, albeit on a different cable?

They fit seperate LNB's ?

I always thought it was a twin/dual LNB for Sky+

Although i admit i got the hell out of Sky before digital went live, couldn't stand working for them any longer.

Do what I do and point out that you have been a customer of theirs for many years and that you are sick and tired of paying callout charges to have substandard items repaired. If they want to continue to recieve my custom for the years to come they will send someone out to sort it out. Found it works 9 in 10 times.

Dont know how it works if you have the 3rd box, I assume the sky+ box will be fed by a dual lnb, its setup like this so you can watch and record separate programs. proberbly failed in this case and a 3rd lnb is feeding the other box which is still working.

Can you not as a test transfer the sky+ box to the location of the other box and hook up the system to the 1st channel and see if you get a pic at the other location, that should at least rule the box out.

I'll give that a try, Manny.

in our house our sky dish has a 4 channel lnb on it as we have 3 boxes around the house, every box needs its own channel to kinda tune in i suppose. don't know on the reliability of lnb's though. all i know is ours has never failed

Sounds like I may have a 4 channel LNB since the Sky+ box needs 2 separate feeds and the second box needs one. I don't see why 2 of the 4 feeds should fail and one should still be working. I'm also puzzled as to why the Line 2 was working OK before I switched the Sky+box off but wasn't after doing the checks Sky tech support asked me to do.

must admit it sounds more like the unit rather than the signal as it is the line's that are failing, by lines do you mean line in or out? or do you mean lines as in signals from the dish?

I'm assuming that Lines 1 and 2 in system setup are the signals from the dish, bengie, ie the Line 1 and 2 cable feeds into the box from the dish.

Ahh, Denis, that'll be to invoke the special 'completely fubar the Sky+ box so that the customer has to pay

I will have a strong cup of tea before doing the box switch(es) tomorrow morning. And thanks for the warning, Howard. :(

from what i have read a message showing loss of off one of the line inputs on your sky+ box is a sign that the hard drive has failed

My parents have had loads of bother with theirs. Best thing to do is just ring up to cancel, and believe me, they wont want you to do that. They wanted

I've had a Sky+ box since day one and upgraded to a 120GB Drive almost immediately and haven't had any problems........ bar 1

I also lost one on the inputs, tried switching the feeds over still the same, anyway no joy so paid the
