intercooler kit info needed

Featured Replies

hi would a golf mk4 gti turbo fmic kit fit a octy mk1 vrs......i no that the kit doesnt have the map sensor plug on the pipes but would the pipe go over my engine and bolt to my turbo as it does on the golf? any info would be great full thanks

this is a pic of the kit

I have been looking at this and as the engine layout is similar/identical I was considering this route as well. I have already modified the Turbo to Pancake pipe as it is really prone to leak boost. But the pic you have up is of the larger intercooler core (like the Forge one) which will be a bit too big unless you plan to go big turbo

why is it to big???

that size is fine pressurised system there will be no extra lag on a single pass core

so this kit should be fine then also does this kit replace the pan cake pipes and other standard intercooler pipes...as this kit ithink goes other the engine and the pipe goes on to the turbo and the other one goes from throttle body to intercooler? am i right....thanks

yes mate thats correct does away with the pancke pipe as it runs down the right hand side of the engine to the turbo good way to do it if you have room as its not then bolted to the hot engine block like standard

i thought the pipe off this kit goes under the front panel then up to the front of the engine and over near the rocker cover and then near the tip ?

yep i think thats what i said right hand side of engine???

Just a thought but have you made sure that the layout for a golf is exactly as it is with a AUQ engine, i.e. inlet manifold is from the o/s, I thought that Golf inlet manifolds on 1.8Ts ran from the near side, but I could be wrong, have you checked?

i didnt think about that  does any one know? but could it still work?

Mkiv's Golf have the inlet on drivers side so you will be fine.

What i would be careful of is the Golf has a different crash bar and also bumper than the Octy.

Think if your going down the cheap DIY route your better looking at a couple of the threads people have done already rather than risking a kit that you may need more pipework for.

i no that i mite have to mod the bumper frame and that ....but this is the same as the octy fmic ie pipes look the same and its 50 odd cheaper

......so this will fit then with no hard work i guess .....apart from the map senor adapter plate . where can i get a alloy one from or will it be easy to make thanks for all the info guys

You can get the map sensor plate from forge.

The kit will fit the VRS but you will need to be prepared for reforming some pipes and bending them to accomadate coming up through the front of the engine and slam panel up and over to the rear of the block to the turbo. Probably also on the other side to get a nice bend to the side of the inner wing up to the inlet.

As been mentioned there are a few folks on here that have done the DIY route with success and at the same price a that kit. There Kits however had the turbo pipe routing underneath the radiator and back through the standard route(like the ABD one) to the pancake pipe, thus avoiding any reworking over engine. I think that looks better than a pipe sitting over the side of the engine IMHO.

I Too have been looking at these FMIC's however, there is no nipple on the turbo pipe for the N75 valve.

or dumpvalve but easy to add on cost prob £10 to get someone to add to ports

if i orderd this kit of the pic i posted where does that pipe go to ..the one that goes over the side of engine .i know it goes to the turbo but i cant see where the out let is on the turbo...

is it that big silver pipe that goes near the back of the rocker cover? also bin speaking to a lad who says he can map mine to all the mods av put on with out driving the car?

and is 15psi safe on mine............av asked 3 lads who had the map done off this lad and they all say thay had no probs ? thanks

Bugger, missed that!

This one's cheap! But no fitted pics. The one above fits with a strut brace :)

Ill have to take pictures of mine, as my pipes are very similar to your thumbnail above Rob, they route the same way down the side of the engine...
