Looking after a PD?

Featured Replies

I have just bought a Bora PD130 which I'm very happy with

Buuuuuuuuuuut it has done 105k miles

This is the first oil burner I've ever owned and any help on looking after it would be appreciated

What's the score with the carbon cannister?

I've read about a millers additive, is it worth me using some of this?

And other than the usual filters etc should I do anything special? I'm aware this car has done a fair few miles so I'd love to really get it up together and serviced ASAP.

Thanks everyone :)

Keep it regularly serviced (every 10k miles), use the correct spec oil, and you will be fine.

I have the PD100 and it's currently on 120k miles.

I've the PD105 with 142k on the clocks. Was on variable (20k) service till 120k, then i've switched to fixed since. Currently on 142k, seem to be very well built engines.

The turbo is the main part that seems to give trouble, let the oil get up to temperature before giving it any beans.

Also let the turbo cool off by driving steady before you plan to switch the engine off.

Should see you well.

Brilliant, thanks lads. Advice noted :)

It's booked in for a service next week, just for peace of mind.

I've read about carbon canisters, what's the deal with these? Should I get it changed on the service?

Thanks everyone, sorry for the questions :)

What's a carbon canister? Are you thinking like an evaporative emissions control thing or are you thinking of a diesel particulate filter on the exhaust? Either way, you don't have one.

Crbon cannister? I'm pretty sure that's only on petrol cars. Not 100% though.

Carbon canister is part of fuel EVAP system on petrol cars only.

Though so. Thanks.

where in Hants are you. It might be worth a trip to JKM in Portsmouth to have a good look over the car.

Plus if you're around my way, I'm happy to give the car a scan with VCDS and see what fault codes come up and turn on any features you like.

Sold my Bora PD130 to a mate with 140k on the clock and it's still going strong 18 months later (remapped, obviously :D).

My general opinion is that the PD130 is pretty bullet proof if looked after despite the issue that MoggyTech posted. It's one of my favourite engines :)

That bora was quite quick Ben, especially with one of your maps :)

I agree, the pd130 is a very strong engine when looked after. Mine had over 130k (mapped + more mods) and never had a days trouble with the engine or turbo, just make sure you keep it well serviced.

Brilliant, thanks everyone.

Sorry for the mix up with the carbon thingy, I've read so much about different cars in the last few weeks that I'm getting very mixed up

It's going for a service tommorow, a garage down here in Portsmouth is doing it. It's getting the works so hopefully after that it should see me right for some time yet.

Cheezemonkhai, thanks for the offer mate. That'd be great. I'm in Portsmouth, is that local-ish to you?

And Ben, I was going to ask you about a remap ;)
