Variable Boot Floor

Featured Replies

I am taking delivery of a new Octavia 4X4 Estate at the week end. It is a bog standard car. A dealer had one in stock and in the colour I wanted so I went for it.

Had I put in a factory order I would have specified a variable boot floor as an extra.

I want to get one of these(there was one on ebay 2 weeks ago!!). I don't want to pay Skoda prices (£185) if at all possible.

Any idea where I can get one at a bit of discount or does anyone have one for sale? I have measured the one up in my Elegance thinking of making one but my carpentry skills are limited to 2x4 and 6" nails!

Any ideas please

Some bits of 2x4 and plywood top probably wouldn't be far off for a DIY flat boot floor, topped off with a rubber boot mat :giggle:

Your best bet might be to advertise in the wanted section here and see if you can find someone with one fitted as standard who has removed it and doesn't want it. Either that, or keep looking on eBay

I have never found the need for one TBH. Would you use one?

It's one of the few things I miss from my Saab that had one. It's great for keeping smaller items in the boot without them rolling round the main boot space itself...

From what I gather, it also means the loading bay is level when you fold the seats down rather than that annoying step in the standard car... When loading long heavy items into the boot it's great not having to lift the item over a step...

...and you can put most of the 'junk' that normally inhabits the boot under there and thus give an impression of tidiness!

That's what I meant by "smaller items" :)

For what it is worth, I sometimes use my VBF to make the boot smaller!

It means that the groceries don't roll around the boot because I've not bought an Octavia boot full!

The fact that the boot doesn't have a lip makes it a bit more practical, especially getting tools in and out!

You will find that those smaller items will still roll around, as they wont be secure under VBL. My mate put his laptop under his to keep it out of view, and ended up damaging it, as the laptop ended up sliding all over the place.

I always remove mine and put it in the garage until I part ex, then put it back.

The whole thing is a waste of space, and by removing it, you actually end up with more volume with the seats up, than a Volvo V70 estate!!!

If you want to secure things down, use the supplied cargo net.

If you can make use of it, all is well and good. It's just that when

people put a rubber covering on it, things do not slide too well.

Not coffins, in Brimma's case :)

I had a look at one earlier today and to be honest I was sceptical of it, but having looked at it properly and had a play, the fact that it can be used to create a bulkhead in the boot is really useful, it means now when i go to sainsburys my shopping won't fly round the back of the car if its in place. Its also good for concealing items within the boot. With estates its sometimes still possible to see the contents of the boot, even with the load cover in place, so its nice to have somewhere discreet to hide the contents

The variable boot floor is quite good the only thing is that i have found some times you can a rattle noise over very rough roads left had side mine coming from where it's bolts down but I think with some fiddling I can get over this. The other point is the sides you will have about 8cm gap by 20cm towards sides on both sides. You can also still use load nets and dog guards etc.

I never said they stopped rolling around (just that they stopped rolling around the main boot) , but I rigged up some compartments for the one I had in the Saab (which couldn't be removed like the Skoda one appears to be) and put tools etc in these compartments.

Cargo nets don't hold small items in place very well as the holes are too big... Oh, and I didn't get a cargo net supplied with my car, I assume it's optional on the hatch...
