Bulb Replacement

Featured Replies

Hi All,

First post here so be gentle with me !!

I am picking up my vRS tomorrow and one of the first things i would like to do is replace the standard bulbs so i get a bit more light etc. If i use the car selector on the Powerbulbs website can i assume that is it fine to use all the bulbs they recommend and there wont be any issues with replacing the standard bulbs?

I also notice that the Powerbulbs website does not have any recommendations for number plate bulbs. I read a post on here of a Furby owner having Led bulbs which looked quite good in the photo so can anyone suggest where i can get the correct replacements.

Lastly, am i going to regret trying to replace the bulbs or is it a job that isnt too difficult ????

Thanks

Chris

Some will say that you need to remove the battery to change the n/s bulbs. I however have done this twice without taking such drastic action and only suffered minimal skin loss.

Welcome BTW!

Hello and welcome to Briskoda :hi:

Upgrading bulbs are very popular on here, so do a search on the makes of bulb. For headlight bulbs the Philips X-treams seam have a longer life than Osram Nightbreakers. However they will not last as long as OEM bulbs. The Nightbreakers for some people only last 3 months or so. :o I have uprated bulbs in my car and you CAN tell a difference.

If you do a search on Powerbulbs, you may find, as a member, there is a discount code to get 10% off your order. The rear number plate light you mentioned are the long "Festoon" type bulbs. The only "upgrade" bulbs I've seen for these are LED ones.

The powerbulbs discount still works, I bought some on Monday from there and you get 15% off.

Hiya,

Quite a fiddely job, but i changed my bulbs without having to remove battery cover or anything!

I think it's 15% off for Freedom members and 10% off for normal members (non-freedom).

Recently changed my bulbs without much hassle - uprated ones make a big difference to the standard OEM ones.

Thanks everyone for your input.

I will take the plunge and go for the Philips range so hopefully slightly better lights by Sunday B)

Thoought I'd resurrect this post rather than starting a new one. One of my dipped headlight bulbs failed so i replaced it with a Halfords performance bulb. However I noticed on the box it says to always replace headlight bulbs in pairs, is this correct or just some Halfords cheekiness? To be honest the new bulb is considerably brighter (though not a nice light, its all focused down like a foglight beam) so changing the other one would be preferable to even out the beams, but would there be any electrical problems running one new, one old bulb? They are the same type and wattage, just one is an upgraded type.

If you have an uprated bulb (e.g. Halfords Brilliance etc.) in one side then, yes it is best to replace both. If one fails then it is likely that the other one will soon. You mention the new one is more focused to the ground, have you checked the cut-off levels by shining them against a wall (eg. Garage door)? The new one may be too low, if so there are 2 adjusters behind the headlight.
