Is this a good buy? Newbie!

Featured Replies

Hello all, recently been looking for a car for my dad wants something cheap, we were recommended a Skoda Fabia as an option, trawling endlessly through AT, eBay and such I have come across this:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Skoda-Fabia-1-4-16V-2000-X-Reg-Excellent-Condition_W0QQitemZ180477728883QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAutomobiles_UK?hash=item2a054f9873

What is your honest opinion on it? How much more milage do you think this can cope with? Good buy?

Thanks

I'm selling one like that for around £1,300 with 101k but in need of a cambelt if that helps at all. I'm just trying to get a quic sale though beofre next week, as I get a new car and can't afford to insure both. But yeah, I reckon that seems to be quite a good price though, see what you can haggle it down too.

that sounds like a pretty good buy to me. all the work that has been done is fairly standard and i'd be quite happy with that price.

in terms of mileage mines done 68000 miles and feels like new, although is a diesel. a friend of mine has just cleared 200k in a 1.4 with no major issues, as long as the services are done these cars last.

i'd suggest getting the v5 reference no and checking the mot's on the direct.gov website just to help verify mileage. www.motinfo.gov.uk/

these cars do suffer some common faults such as door leaks, heater issues and electrical issues due to water ingress, doors and heaters are simple but other electrical issues can get expensive so be sure to chech it out carefully.

great car though so i hope this turns out to be what your after.

Thanks for those kind words, just the type of response I was looking for, will deffo need to check it out! Nice one will ask him for the V5. Thanks again for your reply.

Piston rings are sometimes a problem on these engines. Skoda s\h looks good on this one so the correct oil would have been used. If you are looking at other 1.4's have a long test drive and check no excessive smoke is coming out of the exhaust when the engine is hot.

That looks pretty clean , if you can haggle a couple of hundred off the price it would be even better value - looks like a Comfort model so same as mine but with the 16V rather that the 8V of my car.
