Poor Ride Quality

Featured Replies

Hi everybody.

I haven't had my Superb 11 very long and mostly the car lives up to its name apart from the ride quality which I can only describe as poor on these potholed roads that have appeared everywhere.

Even over small holes the car cannot seem to deal with them and crashes and bangs terribly. I've got the elegance with 18 inch wheels which I think was probably a big mistake, they look great but are probably contributing to the bad ride. Never seemed to notice this at first but when I inflated tyres to correct pressure of 2.1 bar (out of the dealers they were slightly soft,I wonder why!) the ride is sometimes unbearable.

The car is one of the first released 08 58 plate models. Are the later cars like this? Are there any fixes for it?

Hi

All I can say is that I drive over the same potholed roads here in Kent and have a very good ride. I've even remarked to my passengers on occasion how well the Superb rides over the potholes (and there are some very bad ones in my part of Kent). But then I have got standard 16" alloys on my Greenline with lots of rubber in the sidewalls, albeit with the lowered suspension on the Greenline.

It seems to me that the low profile 18" wheels are not the best wheel of choice on English roads unless you stick to the motorways!

Have you checked the Rubber Suspension Stops have been removed.

Not uncommon for them to be left in on the PDI.

I am running on 18" wheels and the ride is ten times better than my prevous L&K Octavia. I must admit that the roads in my area have been wrecked by frost also and it is a bit worrying with such low profile tyres sometimes, but, I think that it enhances the cars agility on a twisty road.

Sounds interesting. I've got the 170CR, would that have been affected as well? I'll have to get it checked when serviced.

Get it checked before the service, leaving them in can cause damage elsewhere. They are designed to limit suspension travel to almost zero and it has been known for dealers to leave them in.

I have the superb on 18 inch wheels and find the ride to be better than my previous Octavia on both 16s and 18s.

PDI = Pre Delivery Inspection not the PD engine :)

You will be able to see yourself if they have been left in.

Just look under the wheel arch and check the spring on the suspension. There will be a black rubber chock in there about the size of half a house brick if they have been left in.

I've test driven a 170CR Elegance with 18" wheels and thought the ride although Firm was a lot more comfortable than my MK2 Octavia vRS with KONI FSD's & Eibach Springs on.

Definitely been removed. I'll just have to put up with the poor ride.

If your not happy take it to a dealer and get a tech to sit in it with you to show him what you mean.

Caffyns Skoda at Ashford are good. I go to them a lot for various things and always found them very helpful.
