Fabia vRS engine hesitation fix

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Did the Engine hesitation fix a week ago i.e. replacing the 25 mm gasket with a 9mm one -all seemed OK - no drop of power between gears.

Went up to Reading last weekend and on the way back engine management light came on!

Drove back OK but slightly down on power.

Checked the manual, warning light indicates an exhaust emission problem. Just to check I replaced 9mm gasket with 25mm one.

After a short drive engine management light went out

Anyone else experienced this problem and should I try opening up the gasket from 9mm to 14mm

Thanks in advance

Karl

Minimum gasket size to avoid CEL light is 11mm. At 9mm you get a reduced EGR flow error logged. Easy fix, is have EGR turned down with VAGCOM, or drill gasket out to 11mm.

Thanks MoggyTech

Thought that was the problem, was going to open up the gasket to 14mm but will try 11mm now

Thanks again for the quick response

Karl :)

I ran a 9mm gasket for 40,000 miles and the CEL light never came on.

I have now fitted a blanking plate and had the light mapped out.

no probs with mine either...

Sorry for my newbie ignorance but I have this problem too (since new) and dealer is unable to fix it. I have searched the forum but so far haven't found any pix of this modded gasket. To be honest I would prefer to remove the EGR from the map and blank off but I am not sure where to look or what needs replacing.

Any help much appreciated.

Hi SmegHead,

I got the details for the Gasket fix from here :-

http://www.fabia-vrs.com/technical-info/blt-engine-hesitation-fix/

Think this site is run by one of the briskoda members ( Hope this helps )

Anyone else having similar problems as it seems it might only occur on certain engines ?

Cars with the BLT engine code (EURO IV)!

AFAIK '06 (Mid to late) and onward, Though i could be 6 months out!

Mine's going in for a service on April 16th and they're fixing the stutter for me under warranty. I've heard it greatly increases driving enjoyment of the car.

Thanks Karl,

Hmmm, dealer says it's already been done when it was in for a service last year. I suppose it is a bit better but I'd just put it down to my getting used to the jerkiness and driving around it. It's far from a cure IMO but is better than it was.

In for a remap in 2 weeks so fingers crossed the Angel Tuning boys will sort that too.

Cheers

Rick

I've read the "hesitation fix" on vrs.com. It says only on BLT engines. I have a 2005 fabia vrs and it has the same symptoms as described in the newer engines. Can this hesitation/judder be fixed on the ASZ engine?

Have your cars MAF and EGR flow rate checked. The ASZ shouldn't suffer from the hesitation.

I tried the EGR trick today but the ODBII kept coming back with connection error codes. It worked ok setting the doors to unlock with one button press but I can't do anything else with it :( Very very odd!

How do I go about doing this mate?

Scan with VAGCOM will show EGR flow rate. MAF is a bit more tricky, as they often don't throw out a fault code when they are starting to fail.

Having tried a google search it threw up "clutch judder" as a possible cause. Anyone experienced this?

Just a quick update on my original problem

Enlarged the 9mm gasket out to about 12mm

Refitted last weekend and no problems todate

Hesitation gone and no warning light yet !!

(but it did take a week to show up with the 9mm gasket)

12mm is the ideal size to avoid the CEL and cure the hesitation.

Sorry to sound like a idiot, but is the 12mm one the one that a dealer will fit? I have read the link that posted the information and sizes but have only seemed to confuse my self.

I was going to fix it my self, but thought if the dealer will do it for free why struggle my self when they can do all the work :)

I went and bought mine from my local VW garage, never had a light come on and it fixed the problem for good.

I think there was a thread with the VW part number....

Dealer will fit a 9mm drilled out to 14mm. They do this so they don't end up breaking the emissions regulations for the engine.

I get it now, thanks for that. Going to ring up now and get it booked in to be fixed.

Thanks again

My dealer reckons mine was done. I suppose it's not quite as bad but it certainly isn't right...... well, it wasn't until this morning thanks to an Angel tuning remap. Jerkiness problem solved, less smoke from exhaust, a bit more ooooomph and more MPG. Sounds too good to be true (fingers crossed!)

  • 3 weeks later...

Just replaced mine now with the 9mm (drilled to 12mm) and the stutter has gone :D

The little light is still on the dash board but its going into dealer anyways so will ask them to sort that.

Anyone had any issues after fitting the new gasket, mine now sounds like the exhaust is blowing slightly :(
