Radio code

Featured Replies

Hi,

Had to fit a new battery to my fabia 1.9 sdi today,

but the radio is asking for a code, it actually, says 'safe' for a bit and then changes to '1000'

So im guessing it wants a code, i'll have to contact our local dealer

But how do you enter the code?

thanks for your help

Turn the stereo off, Turn the ignition off. Go make a cuppa!

Come back and switch ignition on, Now turn on the stereo and see what happens!

If this doesn't work then you'll have to go to a dealer I'm afraid.

I can confirm what Mike B says is true. I removed and replaced Mrs Grrs headunit recently to install

a parrot. When I switched the radio on it said safe then like the OPs "asked" for a code.

Instead of perseveering I rang the dealer we bought the car from and got the code.

Went back out and switched on again armed with the code.... Switched the unit on....

Without doing a darn thing... It worked... :)

I believe the "brain" of the car recognises an authorised stereo.

I'm sure there's a more technical explanation for this phenomenon...

It's unknown to me though :giggle:

I just know it works.:D

If you switch everything off, then engage the ignition, then switch on the radio, it should "re-sync" itself with the code stored in the ECU (the first time the car is started - presumably at the factory - the radio stores the engine details and the ECU stores the radio details, so it "knows"). Alternatively, the 4-digit code is on a sticker in the inside cover of the radio manual, along with instructions on how to enter it... :)

VAG have not provided radio codes since 2001, I never had one with my 2001 Octavia. If you really do need the code then you will need to go to a dealer to get one. The system has now changed for getting the radio working. You'll need to pop in with the car, proof of ownership of the car and possibly proof of address, without these they will be unable to get the code from Skoda in CZ (not skoda uk who are just a distributor). The dealer then hooks up the car to the computer which connects to skoda hq and requests the code based on the VIN of the car and serial number of the headunit.

The radio manual for my 2004 Fabia has it stickered on the inside... :S

Likewise for mine, but I've never had to use it. Battery out today, to fix headlamp wiring. Connected back up, tested lights , with radio coding itself.

You're replying to a thread posted ten years ago.

People are still reading 10 year old posts to gain information, me included.

The Skoda radio code problem is in the past already!

That was three and a half years ago, the problem is not that I posted my response ten months ago, the problem is that people don't bother to READ what was already staring them in the face.
