Octavia 4x4 lowering springs

Featured Replies

Hello all!

I test drove a VW Golf Mk VI today with the 140bhp diesel engine and was pretty impressed with it! It got me thinking that perhaps I don't 'need' to go for the vRS 170 tdi option next time round but could be content with the 140 tdi. I really like the idea of the 4x4 with this engine but don't really like the idea of the increased ride height. In a long winded way this now brings me to the point of this post...

The accessories and options indicate that you can get loweringsprings for the Octy estate - does this go for the 4x4 too? A 4x4 with lowered ride hieght and a few other choice accessories could be a fairly rapid and stealthy alternative to a VRS...

Any thoughts would be much appreciated!

I like your thinking. Could spec and chip it up to vRS capabilities with the added grip of 4x4. Whould have thought the only potential problem is if the suspension system is significantly different on the rear wheels that standard lowering springs aren't compatible

but springs off the Golf 4Motion could well be compatible and if you speak to a few of the companies that supply springs im sure they could find you something suitable if there isnt a solution already readily available

Well I test drove a 140 tdi non 4x4 on Monday and asked the dealer on the sports suspension kit and was told that it prbably won't fit due to the various skid plates under the car and that the 4x4 was more or less the same height as a standard Octavia anyway - Skoda UK are going to provide a more definitive answer...

Anyway the kit is listed on the website for 2006 and on Octavias which I guess will fit the facelift model. Details are below! Unless of course the new model is riding at 'normal' height?!

Sports Suspension Kit

Part Number: FAA629003

Suitable For: Octavia Estate 4x4

Product Details: The sports suspension not only lowers the vehicle by 30mm but will also improve the handling of the vehicle providing a much more sporty experience.

Cost is £500 plus fitting.

Why is it that it is impossible to get clarity over these things from those who are meant to 'know'?!

If I wasn't so 'warranty' paranoid I would just go aftermarket. I have some serious deciding to do and am thinking another vRS may be the way to go. :wonder:

Don't forget the Mark VI Golf has the CR 140 engine whilst the 4x4 Octy has the PD...

In what is rapidly becoming 'my post' I thought I would post the response I got back from Skoda in the Czech Republic regarding a series of questions about the 4x4 Octavia. The headlines are CR diesel is replacing the PD this year and there are no plans to do a 4x4 vRS version...

We are pleased for your interest in the Octavia 4x4. Please find answers in the text below:

1. How 'raised' is the raised suspension? The brochure gives a height for theScout but not the 4x4. Dealers I have spoken to don't seem to know!

Clearance for the standard suspension is 138 mm. When raised (so-called “rough road package†providing better underbody protection), clearance is 163 mm.

2. On the accessories website a Sports Suspension Kit (Part Number: FAA629003) Suitable For: Octavia Estate 4x4

"Product Details: The sports suspension not only lowers the vehicle by 30mm but will also improve the handling of the vehicle providing a much more sporty experience. Cost is £501 plus fitting." On the accessories website it states that this is for vehicles built from 2006 onwards - does this therefore mean that it will fit the 'facelifted' model avaialbe now?

PROBABLY YES. We were informed by Original Parts dept. that in case of the Octavia 4x4 they are able to say final word after they know car’s VIN code as there are many variables to consider.

3. In addition is it possible to order a car with this suspension set up direct from the factory thus saving the 'fitting' charge?

NO. The only 4x4 Skoda available with sporty suspension as a factory-fit option is the 260 bhp Superb 3,6 FSI V6 4x4. All other models (the Octavia, the Yeti and the Superb) are available with standard or raised suspension only.

4. Can you tell me if and when the CR diesel (140bhp) is going to be put in the 4x4 Octavia? This engine is already available in other models in the Skoda range and having driven a VW Golf with the CR engine it is a much better and more responsive drive!

YES. It was confirmed by Skoda officials that the CR engines will replace the PD units during 2010. On the other hand a detailed schedule is not available, so we cannot tell you exact calendar week. Likewise, we do not have any official information whether the Octavia 4x4 will follow the Yeti in availability of Haldex Mk4 with DSG.

5. Ideally I would like a 4x4 vRS diesel estate which would be the extact car I need - I'm guessing there aren't any plans to do this?!

NO. The 4WD increases weight by approx. 100 kg, which means that it would not be an RS any more. It would simply be the Octavia 4x4 with 170 bhp engine (we do not count on this engine for the Octavia 4x4).

Hope this information will help you to choose the best Octavia for you.

I'm guessing most people on Briskoda knew the answers but perhaps handy nonetheless! :)

Look at after market suspension. When I built the 4x4 based on the Mk 1 Petrol 4x4 I fitted KW variant 3's, gives adjustable ride height & stunning cornering. Perhaps they do something for the Mk 2

I bought a 4x4 1.9 tdi a couple of years ago and its ride height doesn't seem to be any higher than the standard car, despite the handbook spec quoting an additional 25mm. I recently parked it next to an apparently identical model, a couple of years older and it was noticeably higher than mine. I'm a little pi**ed off about this as I wanted the extra clearance.

Has anyone else come across this?

Guy

I need mine to go up a bit it catches some of the speed bumps even when driving slow

260 bhp Superb 3,6 FSI V6 4x4.

F**k me that sounds like fun!! Stuff the Octy mate, get one of those!
