Difference Between MPG 1 * MPG 2 On MFD Display

Featured Replies

Looking to find out what is the difference between the MPG 1 & MPG 2 on the MFD display.

After sorting the DPF issue once and for all, my MPG has rocketed up . While driving last night behind a line of traffic i prepared myself for a long journey so i left it on cruise.

Working through the dials of the MFD i was receiving average MPG 1 of 58.8 and Average MPG 2 of 60.1.

could anyone explain the difference. I'm too lazy to find the manual :)

Thanks

Tom

MPG1 - average for current trip

MPG2 - a "rolling" average. When you cycle through all the maxidot options, you'll get things like time, distance etc. All (2) readings relate to the "rolling" totals, hence the MPG is the rolling average. Think this resets after so many thousand miles, but forget just how many :)

HTH

My MPG2 seems to reset after just five hundred miles or so. Unlike the old Passat which ran for several thousands.

Too trivial a fault to take back, will wait until the service.

What engine do you have? I only see over 50mpg coasting down hills.

I see 50 on mine, 2.0TDI PD140 with DSG

BMN

MPG 2 resets after the car has been driven for 99 hours.

Mine has just reset for the second time and the car has now covered 6100 miles.

Drive for 99 hours at 1 mph and it will reset at 99 miles, drive for 99 hours at 70mph it will reset at 6930 miles.

>200 when I lift my foot of the accelerator on 'real time' mpg.

All I have to do now is always go down hill!

Indicator 1 is average since you left the vehicle for more than an hour or two.

Indicator 2 is average since you reset it (I use this for when towing my caravan.

There is also a 'real time' display which has it's uses - if only for >200 downhill.

In fact there seems to be an indicator for everything.

I even found that removing the roof antenna, the am section of the radio doesn't work. This means the FM comes from the rear window one! Why do VW have both? It might get in the way of my wind deflector if I ever get one.

2009 scout 1.8 manual (waiting for an auto petrol 1.8 4*4) in red!

FM comes from both antennas, using a diversity function to improve reception by constantly picking the aerial that has best reception. AM comes from the roof only since diversity does not work on AM. Also FM functions are split. so TMC (if nav) data comes down one aerial and the station list is built and populated by the second.

Another example of why manufacturers could save money, and trees, by not bothering to print and supply handbooks. After all they don't get used!!!!!!!!

Belatedly, what does BMN mean?

Not in any on-line dictionary of hip yoof slang?

I spent ages reading the 'book'.

My Scout wasn't what I ordered (it was a octy II estate 4*4 I ordered), so between looking for things I didn't have, some bits only work when you are driving (mobile phones are a cinch compared with reading, pressing buttons through steering wheel etc.) and generally not the most helpful of publications, life can be difficult.

I haven't even lifted the bonnet yet, so I have no idea what I'll find under there.

Never mind, It seems to go alright which is what matters.
