Daylight Running Lights-Facelift Octavia

Featured Replies

My car is fitted with these but they don't work. They are fitted adjacent to the fog lamps. Tried to get them going to no avail. Contacted Skoda Customer Care who advise that all cars will require DRLs as and from 04/2011. It was easier to fit now and upgrade later.Later in year software will be sent to dealers to activate lights. No charge will be made to customers. So there we have it!

Sorry about font size-don't know how it happened Tried to alter but couldn't change it.

My DRLs are already active, car delivered to me on Saturday 13th.

Anyone know if the FL Scout has DRL's in the fogs?

Looking at brochure seems to have old style round fogs but from what Skoda told me they should have them fitted somewhere.

Yes but it is only VRS they come as standard.

You won't be forced to retro-fit DRLs should such a decision on their requirement be made.

It will simply be "All cars from such and such a date must have them".

It's like with immobilisers, high-rise brake lights and in 2011, ESP - a date of requirement is made and all cars post that date must have the item.

No forced retro-fitting.

The current Octavia manual shows one bulb only in the Scout fog lights. Because of the Scout Bumper being in one piece , I dont think it wil have DRL fitted, unless they are included in the head light module.

Scout fog lights have only one bulb in the manual.Because the Scout has special one piece bumper, I can't see them being fitted in the bumper, the redesign would cost too much . They may be fitted in the headlamp unit eventually, if they become mandatory in manufacturing.

are you saying the daylight running lighs are going to be included in my Elegance FL Octavia that ive only jus ordered, ?

and then also do they have cornering fogs?

This is what I got via email from Skoda:

'Thank you for your email dated 15 March 2010, regarding the running lights on your car.

I can confirm that it will not be possible to switch these lights on as yet. The law regarding daylight running lights is

planned to change in 2011 and once it becomes law for the lights to be used then your Retailer will be able to activate them

Thank you for contacting Skoda Customer Services.

Kind Regards'

Telephone contact lady stated it would be later in this year that DRL software would be sent out to dealers.

They are fitting DRLs now as its cheaper that way???

Dont know about cornering fogs-dont think they will become law!!

Picked up my new car on march 1st, Elegance estate, having asked the dealer to activate the DRL and cornering fog lights, and deactivate the seat belt chime/warning light, and activate 2nd rear fog. Only to be told upon picking up, that they cant do it, any of it.......................2 weeks later got my own Micro-Can key and with the help of VCDS, and hey presto, all done. Have activated DRLs and cornering fog lights, and thank god have managed to get rid of that bloody seat belt chime. Only thing I have not been able to do is activate the 2nd rear fog. Not sure at the moment why, definitely ticked the activate rear fog, but only the one comes on. Will check to see if their is actually a bulb in the 2nd fog light.

I understand that the dealers dont use VCDS, but there own more hi tech equivalent VAS??? But which means it is not as easy for them to do things that VCDS make so easy.

If you want any of these activated contact a member on here who has VCDS, check the VCDS register, in the Vag com forum. If you need help or guidance on how to activate PM me.

No bulb fitted from the factory. When you do now, it should work

The dealers VAS tool will only allow them to set what Skoda allow them to. If they say that DRLs cannot be activated then that function may not be available in VAS until its required to be.

While my car was in the garage having some accidant damage repaired (i only had the car 2 days and got rear ended), the garage managed to activate the DLR's. Although it is not the lights next to the fogs it is the side lights, thay can be activated and decativated by pulling the indicator lever up / down and towards the steering wheel as in the manual.

Has anyone got drl's and the side lights bulb working together.

My FL VRS has the DRL's on, but when you switch to sidelights they dim. I wondered if you could get the standard sidelight bulb to come on when switch them on?

Can this be coded in VAGCOM or similar?

Yes there is, the Octavia has four rear night light bulbs on each side in a "C" shape - this applies to both the hatch and estate.

The top one doubles up as the brake light, the lower one doubles up as the fog light.

They are single filament bulbs, the wattage is just increased for the brake / fog function.

The two remaining bulbs are single purpose 5W.

I had my Skoda dealer enable the second rear fog on my 2008 Scout.

I have read on here that this is now not possible on the FL?

Been discussed beore, it cant be done, its either DRLs or sidelights. When you run on sidelights with the DRLs enabled the DRLs dim, and in effect become the sidelights.

Rubbish

Had a look at the rear light unit and all the bulbs are there, and tested them all to make sure they are working, but still no 2nd rear fog.

Hi first post here on behalf of my Father :)

I would be very interested to get a difinitive answer on the running light issue too.

My Father has just taken delivery of an Octavia Elegance 1.6CR DSG and he wants to have the additional lights in the fogs enabled as running lights.

He went to his suppling dealer yesterday to have them done. First off they didn't know what lights he meant, so after pointing them out they agreed to do it for him. When he got home he realised what they had enabled was the headlights along with tail lights/number plate lights etc, but oddly not side lights.

When he phoned up and questioned it they said because his car is so highly specified being the Elegance and the latest model that the option he wanted was not possible. Luckily he managed to disable them through his Maxi Dot.

I can see from various posts that people can enable them by using "Micro-Can key and with the help of VCDS", so my question is has anyone had the running lights (in fog lamps) enabled on a late 2010 Elegance by their dealer? If so what option did you ask for?

Many thanks in advance.

I took delivery of my 2010 1.4 Tsi Elegance Estate in May this year; it was built in April. It has the extra DRL bulbs next to the front fog lights and my particular car also has Maxidot. I have posted previously on this subject but to answer your specific point, my Dealer activated them for me earlier this month. I had to wait about 15 minutes while it was done. The resultant modification to the software has added another menu item to the Maxidot which enables me to select, or deselect, DRL operation. This was not there when the car was new. In practical terms, with DRL selected, the DRL bulbs are illuminated with the ignition on (no tail lights or any other lights are illuminated). If I switch on the headlights then the DRLs extinguish. It all works very well and I am very pleased with the setup. I should also mention I have the Light Assistant package - auto lights etc - but I don't think this has any bearing on the DRL function.

There is a lot of "mystique" about DRL within the Skoda network and I think some Dealers are more illuminated (sorry about the pun) than others on this subject. I suggest you have another go at them.
