FL Octavia VRS Diesel estate - good deal?

Featured Replies

Hi folks, I was wondering if you could help me out. I'm looking to buy a new FL Octavia VRS Diesel estate before the VAT and interest free offer "finally" expires at the end of the month. I say "finally", because I think this is the third time it's been extended - it's like the DFS sale! Anyway, my favoured spec is as follows:

- Metallic paint (Race Blue or Anthracite)

- Leather upholstery

- Maxidot

- Rear parking sensors

- Silver roof rails

- Sunset privacy glass

A little play about with DriveTheDeal came up with a price of £18,204.18. I contacted a few dealers to see if they'd be able to beat this, and one came back with a quote of £18,195, beating DTD by a cool £9! Two questions:

1) Is this a good price?

2) Should I bite the dealer's hand off and take the plunge?

Actually, there's three questions...

3) How likely it is that Skoda will extend the VAT and interest free offer (again)?

Answers please!

Cheers

Stephen

yes

pretty likely in my opinion

You forgot to add light assist (you really want this so you get the auto-dipping rear view mirror) and spare wheel. You probably want heated seats to go with your leather too.

Pretty likley to extend the VAT offer.....? I'm not for a second saying you're wrong but the OP would be gutted if he relied on you and it did finish the end of March.

Oh yeah, I'm not saying he should wait. No point in tempting fate. I just really wouldn't be at all surprised to see it extended again.

Deal or no deal

Deal!

Thanks to all those that have replied  . Ooooh, I'm soooo tempted now. I thought it was a good deal too but just wanted to check with those in the know. I'm not too bothered about heated seats - SWMBO has got a Fabia VRS SE with unheated hide (the car, and not the wife!), and I've never found it too cold. Must be the thermal undies! To my chosen spec I'd probably add MDI too, but might be cheeky and see if Dealer will chuck that in for nowt. If you don't ask, you don't get! Have got until tomorrow to make my decision. Will keep you posted on what I decide.

Cheers

If you can beat the DtD price through another dealer then that's amazing.

I've been trying the same thing with a high spec CR170 estate and most of the dealers have been between £750 and £1500 more expensive. One even said he'd used up his quota :o

Most dealers I've spoken to (or had email contact with) say the DtD price is impossible to match as they'd be losing money.

Thats exactly what I found although a few would beat or match the drive the deal quote.

You need to remember that the drive the deal price only includes 6 month road tax where as a quote from a dealer direct will include 12 months tax.

I did find a dealer locally that would beat the drive th deal price by over £200 :giggle:

To my chosen spec I'd probably add MDI too

You'd be better off with a Denison Gateway 100 CAN or 300 CAN. Far better solution, more integrated into Maxidot. I really do highly recommend the auto-dipping rear view mirror too. It looks smarter and the optics are better.

DtD gives you the option of specifying 12 months tax.

Is your new car on the way Nick ? I'd recommend the DG 300 + maxidot too. Excellent.

So how do they work then and how much do they cost?

Steve

DtD gives you the option of specifying 12 months tax.

I know but most people who are just looking for a quote on drive the deal don't get as far as pressing the order button and therefore don't see that the price quoted only includes 6 months tax. Apparentldrive the deal always used to supply/quote on 12 months tax a few years ago.

Noooooooooooooo! A cruel twist of circumstances has meant that i've decided not to take the plunge and enter the world of Octy VRS ownership :'( . Basically SWMBO said no. Boo, hoo, I may live to regret that decision. Let's hope Skoda decide to extend the VAT and interest free offer so that it gives me more time to convince the missus.

Thanks to all who posted.

Methinks bearing in mind the previous sentence that the decision wasn't yours to take ;)

Moral...when fishing for a new car, always take SWMBO to the dealership with you. Tell her how much better the new one will be and get the sales person to help you. Two against one always works. Trust me - tried and tested.

Genius

With my SWMBO it almost works the other way.

I am trying my best to haggle away with the salesman, and she is telling me to just go ahead and buy it!

That's because the fairer sex are positively useless at negotiating and find the process embarrassing - why else can they get away with charging ridiculous sums for a pair of shoes and have women queuing up to buy them on your credit card :giggle:

Exactly !

Basically SWMBO said no.

That's bad state of affiars when you can't choose your own purchases!

You all must have the wrong ladies.

Mine came with me and she did most of the negotiation for me!

I got 12months tax with my DTD vRS?

Didn't specify it anywhere.

Yee ha!!! Chaps and chapesses, I made yet another u-turn and ordered my VRS today. And just to demonstrate that I listen to you guys, I added the auto-dim mirror and spare wheel - thanks to wega3k! . Dealer managed to chuck them in AND a full tank of the black stuff for a piddly £20 more. Managed to sweet talk the wife into thinking it was a good deal. Car order is good, but wait for it isn't so good - i've been told "about 14 weeks" - :'( . Wish I could fast forward 14 weeks. How am I going to get my VRS fix in the meantime?!?

Congratulations on talking her round :-D

Good news. 14 weeks must be a killer!
