Hi everyone,

I am quite new to this forum, I picked up my Octavia vRS mk1 on Saturday and I love it.

I am going to clean the throttle body soon as I think it needs it, well once I have found a guide to doing it that is! Lol

I need to get the service indicator reset, can the be done with a standard OBD2 reader or do I need someone with Vagcom?

Thanks

Nick

The service indicator can be reset by you, just look in the service book and it tells you how to do it, you do not need Vagcom or any other device to do it.

If you use the search facility on here I think its still logged somewhere?

It tells you how to reset the service indicator in the owners manual (pg. 70 i think).

Car looks clean and tidy to

(just beaten to it :D )

You have to be quick on here..

Very nice, reminds me of my one when I bought it, it was looking all shiny on the dealer forecourt!

The throttle body cleaning guide I did is here:

Garage should have reset the service interval before they gave it to you, especially if it was serviced before they put it up for sale. But like Gerry says you can do it yourself with the instructions in the manual.

Thanks everyone, I will be doing that throttle body clean at the weekend then, great guide.

Thanks for the info on resetting the service indicator ill do that tonight too, the garage I bought it from said they did not have the right equipment to reset it! lol

Nice ride! The TB cleaning thread is cracking, I'll be doing mine very soon.

Nice and fresh mate

Nice clean example there, kind of reminds me of where I started with my silver one.

Service reset is easy for fixed service cars, which is

Press in the trip reset button

Whilst holding trip button down turn on ignition key so dash lights come on

Then turn the clock adjustment button clockwise

you will see the the display change from service to miles

let go of the clock adjust button and release the trip reset button

job done

Thanks everyone, I will try the service indicator reset tonight as I didn't get a chance last night.

As Bowders says if your car is on fixed it is easy, but if on variable servicing then you need vag-com (or similar) to reset it.

Ah, I think mine might be variable as thats what it says in the service book but I will give it a go anyway! lol

If your on variable and reset in the way mentioned above that puts the car back into fixed servicing, which some will say is a good thing - I run my 110TDi on variable, and get 30k between services, but I am doing 120mile round trip to work each day, so it gets a good workout!

Once in fixed you will need a dealer or vag-com to set it back to variable. Best hope the dealer used the proper LL oil if they did a service....

I have reset it and it did work, I guess it is no longer on variable then lol it's not a problem as I plan to get it serviced on a regular basis.

What oil should it have, what grade etc. I've never used long life stuff before?

Have a look on www.opieoils.co.uk they will recommend a range of oils suitable for your car. I think for a standard service interval (1 year or 10k) the oil has to meet VAG 502.00 specification and for a longlife interval it has to meet 504.00 specification.

If you're servicing it more regularly now (say a couple of oil changes a year) I'd just go for a normal oil as it will be cheaper than the longlife ones.
