306 rallye vs Fabia Vrs

Featured Replies

That's what a lot of people thought' date=' but it was a myth.

The 309 had a longer chassis as stated and better weight distibution. And being a big bloke, I didn't have my knees at 3 and 9 o'clock on the steering wheel in my 309, unlike the 205s I have driven

It was a good handling car, they even made a Thundersaloon 309 years back that looked squat and went v.fast...[/quote']

Same idea as the Golf Mk II and Jetta Mk II - the Jetta was apparently better handing due to better weight distribution ( and a stiffer body as well, perhaps?)

What was the Old 309 I think it was called a "Goodwood" special like, it was in British Racing Green and looked rather nice ? Was it anything special ?

The goodwood was British Racing Green, had metallic grey alloys and full leather interior, air con and a few other toys. Think it was still a 1.9 8v lump though, although it might have been the 160bhp 16v lump, can't remember...

Same thing a lot of people say about the Mk4 Golf and Bora...

having owed a Peugeot 306 1.6 I have to say it is my second favourite car I have owned' date=' the Skoda being my first! It was only a 1.6 and as slow as anything but it handled very well, I still regret getting rid of it for the paxo, that was the dawn of the dark times in my driving life!

Given the choice between a 306 GTi-6 or the fabia, it would be a easy choice to make, the fabia, it's cheaper to run and insure, better build quality and nicer to drive. I personally think the Fabia is more a GT than GTi.[/quote']

Prior to my VRS Fabia, I suffered a company Astra 1.7TDi for four years and a Rover 214SLi (house and wife priority over car) before that.

However, previously I had Peugeot 309 GTi Goodwood and have to admit that though engine was primative, handling was superior to VRS. Also loved full black leather interior.

Overall though, VRS my favourite car to date.

Incidentaly, with 10,000 on clock averaging 50MPG, but on long motorway journeys have obtained 70 MPG if averaging 50MPH.
