Octavia I - Sunroof not working

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, I have done some research and found that this might be a common fault?

The electric sunroof on my Octavia isnt working, I have looked at the fuse and it appears to be in order, anyone else had this issue??

Any help appreciated

Never heard anyone complain before, so not common.

Mine works fine in that it opens and closes; it's a complete waste except as a clear-view panel though, because it doesn't generate the big airflow I'm used to from a sunroof.

Slightly OT, but I enjoy the sun shining through when it's open on the slide setting during the summer . . . or even the winter!

I like the extra light you get in the car - find it "dark" to be in a car without a sunroof these days.

Also agree with ken - not heard of many issues (if any) to do with the sunroof electrics failing - generally drainage related, so I can't offer any first hand practical help :-(

Thanks guys, I googled it (I know that can bring up some random stuff) and some of the comments were on other forums where people said "I havent had the sunroof issue" so I just assumed it was a known issue

I have checked the obvious fuses - the ones listed in the book, but I think I might work through them all in case its another fused linked in! fingers crossed!

If you're handy with a multimeter, might be worth checking that the sunroof is getting power. It should have power whenever the ignition is on. You can get to the electrics by removing the emergency access panel and then unscrew the unit so it drops out.

I wouldnt have the first clue what to do! :giggle:

But I have found out that a friend of a friend is an auto electrician so thats my next stop

Where in the south west are you?

To rule out a seized mechanism, if you drop the console around the switch there should be a hand cranking handle in there to manually open the roof. It should be detailed in the handbook.

Right - I took the panel off as suggested and found that for some reason the switch had been disconnected! :S

Anyway, I connected it and the sunroof will tilt, but not slide - not sure whats going on there but I think it will be an "as and when" job I think!

It opens with the manual crank so ots an electrical issue!

Thanks for your help guys! I guess I need to RTFM :giggle::thumbup:

  • 1 year later...

i got the problem when i m closing sunroof it close and than suddenly it s opening itself straight away, same thin with driver window but when i m closing from key window closing but sunroof not after only 10 minutes when i was manually switching one by one point it closes

Sort of related, is it easy to take the panel around the switch off? I ask because my switch has pushed through which is annoying. Still works fine though. Unfortunately i dont have the original owners manual.
