I did a bit of a reckie today and the timings are about right from the first page. 30 mins, Great Ayton to Helmsley, then 20-30 mins from there to The Lion Inn (depending on traffic). I did notice in Great Ayton, the road is closed from the bridge to Suggets, at the bridge. There is a diversion in place. I hope they will be finished by the weekend

Helmsley was busy, even today, The Long Stay Car Park, near the Castle was minimum £1.10 for 1 hour, and the Ice Cream place was very near to it. The car park in the town centre was the same price. As mentioned in my first post on this thread, I counted at least 30 different flavours of Ice Cream, plus some Sorbets. However I resisted temptation and did not try one. The Shop opens at 10 am every morning (including Sundays).

I carried on after the Lion to Hob Hole ford, but was disappointed as the low water level meant that it was going under the ford in pipes and not over it. So it doesn't matter if we don't go that way, I think we are going to Pickering in the opposite direction anyway.

I'm looking forward to the meet, I hope the Weather will be OK, :sun: although I seen a report saying it might . (typical Bank Holiday Weather, lol)

Sharkrider , i presume u are coming along the A66 to Scotch Corner , it is about 45 minutes (32.5 miles) from Scotch Corner to Great Ayton.

From Rheged its about 83.1 miles (1.48 hrs) to Great Ayton (post code TS9 6NE)

So for those who don't know where we are meeting, Here is a Street View link Here As you can see Suggitts is on the right, parking is either on the main road or if there is spaces a bit further along on the right (by the red van). I am writing this as the post code given is for a private house.

For people meeting at Roseberry, can I suggest we meet at the Lay-by just before Newton, (just in case the car park is full) at 9 to 9:15, it takes about 5 mins (if that) from there to where we are all meeting up. Edit: we'll meet in the car park as originally planned.

I was confused, but I've worked it out now.

You're right there shouldn't be that many cars in the car park at 9 am on a Sunday.

I'm guessing only you will be coming down to see us then drive back to Great Ayton to meet the others.
