I initially thought that would be too early, but then thought if we are stopping in Helmsley, It'll be busy so it's about the right start time. I'm not sure if you can park there for free, as the Car Parks are P&D type.

Have you had any thoughts of what to do after the meal?

My suggestions are we could tun left off the main road and go to Westerdale, then to Hob Hole, where there is a great Ford (a wet one not a car, lol), then Castleton and then onto Danby. As we are there, drive up to Danby Beacon, which is a great view point (and great for Group Shots). After that, I'm not sure, There's the Moors Centre at Danby Lodge, or get on the main road and drive to Whitby (It'll be busy being a Bank Holiday) or drive to along Grosmont, where there may be Steam Engines running.

Sounds good jim or if we are over whitby way have a drive to goathland where they film heartbeat thats a nice place to visit and the steam trains run through there to also good for photos outside scrips garage

Looking at the website for the Lion Inn it says under the menu section and then under Sunday Lunch that booking is recommended. With this many people it’s probably a good idea.

I'm not sure which way for you is best from Scotch Corner, but be aware that Leven Bridge, just past Yarm on A1044 is closed due to flood damage over winter. It was still closed today since February (I go that way to Croft).
