Ok, so I bought an iPhone...

Featured Replies

As my old C902 died on me, and it was contract renewal time, as a loyal Orange customer I managed to haggle a deal on an iPhone I couldn't refuse. I've been resisting it for a long time as I didn't want to be one of "those people". emoticon-0136-giggle.gif

So, I got it last night and set up my Gmail, Google calendar, and thats about it!

What do I need to know? What apps are essential? Any tips that are handy?

Cheers in advance emoticon-0148-yes.gif

hey

i live on the ebay app!! its great and you can do nearly everything you can with normal ebay.

also tv catchup lets you watch nearly all the freeview channels with a 5 minute delay for free!

cant think of any more

No app is essential. It's a phone not a dialysis machine.

If you want tip, the best one would have to be...... Don't drop it.

I didn't want to be one of "those people". :giggle:

I'm up for an orange upgrade soon and I'm leaning towards a Blackberry 9700 so I don't become " One of those people ", Like you have. :giggle:

First thing you HAVE to learn, is how to reboot it.

Hold down both buttons for 2 seconds, then swipe the screen.

Its a great phone, but im certain loads of the apps have memory leaks, and my phone needs a reboot about once a week.

Make sure you have chargers everywhere, it does eat the battery when you use it lots.

Once your done, just go mad in the app store. Theres soo much free stuff, i have a number of games and apps.

My most used downloaded app is probably an RSS feed reader. im always reading the news via it.

The best thing you can do to an iPhone is jailbreak it. Only then does it become properly customisable and completely useable.

Once jailbroken, Cydia has a free sat nav running on google maps which is quite good. It also has a rediculous amount of free themes and ringtones (including message tones).

it really depends what u want from the phone, theres an app for just about anything (my god i sound like the advert!!) mines been a bit of a life saver at work but as mentioned above, make sure u have chargers here, there and everywhere. i use the ipod on the way to work, alot of facebook etc while at work and ipod on the way home and it needs charging every night. enjoy though :)

You need to know that you will experience the scorn of bitter and twisted people that haven't got the all conquering iPhone. :giggle:

Kidney failure? There's an app for that!

Onlyt if Tom becomes one of those iphone owners who makes out everything was invented by apple, and that no other phone could do anything it does before the iphone came along..... :dull: .

Do you mind me asking what deal you got? I am overdue for a change and as Orange don’t do any of the decent Windows phones and the Desire is still a little way off, I thought I might go for the Iphone. I had heard that Orange wouldn’t haggle on it, so I am interested to know how far they went.

I have to say my favourite apps are.......

TV Catch up - FREE

The offical F1 timing app (the free one not the £20 one) - FREE

Facebook - FREE

SimplyTweet or Twitteriffic - FREE or PAYWARE

Boxcar (to tell me how many tweets i've missed) Was FREE when i got it but may now be PAYWARE

AroundMe - FREE

ebay app - FREE

The Guardian - PAYWARE

Shazam - FREE and PAYWARE versions

Last.FM - FREE

shift worker - PAYWARE

Also for anyone who may be interested o2 have changed their iPhone tarifs this last month or so. Can't remember much about what's changed but the one thing i can remember is that the price paid for the phone has been reduced.

Cheers

Dave.

24 month Dolphin 35 for £28 a month, and handset for £59.99. Quite pleased with that. I think its a 20% loyalty discount on the monthly rate, and £30 discount on the handset, oh and they sent me a £20 HMV voucher in the post so I could buy a case. Also get my unlimited home broadband with unlimited free landline calls etc for a fiver a month.
