VRS Boot size

Featured Replies

Currently thinking about looking for VRS, really attracted by the power/running costs of the model. However the girfriend is pregnant, and we're expecting the baby to arrive in Sept, i'm currently driving a A4 Convertible, and it's a struggle already with a child of 7 years, but it will have to go soon before the new baby arrives for obvius reasons.

Now i know I have mentioned this is a previous thread, but i really need to know about the practicality of the VRS, and in particular will i get the baby buggy into the boot?

The new car will need to be bought over the next couple of months, but i wont be getting the buggy until August time, have any of you guys or gals who own a VRS also have a small baby, and can confirm the practicality of the car.

Thanks all!

That's a tough one to answer as prams come in a VAST array of sizes. While ours is quite compact (Cosatto) our friend's pram barely fits in their LandRover! I had the car first, so I just made sure I bought a buggy that would fit in both our cars. Most websites will supply pram dimensions so you will be able to figure out if it fits, you will just then need to measure the Fabia's boot capacity. I'm sure someone on here will be able to help you out as I don't know off hand what the Fabia's boot dimensions are (maybe that info is available somewhere on the net, or on this forum). I also checked to make sure the pram's wheels easily popped on and off just in case my measuring wasn't that accurate. I'm sure you could find a pram that will fit in the Fabia's boot, you just might have to compromise as I know my wife was pretty particular about what she wanted in a buggy. I know the Casatto will fit in my car, but because the wife has a V50 (and her seats AREN'T light grey) I have yet to transport the baby in my car, but I know if I ever do need to then I should be able to fit everything in. Good luck.

Thanks for the reply!

I've managed to locate a VRS in a garage in Sunderland, although it's not one i would buy due to milage, i'm going to have a pop along over the bank holiday weekend and take a good look at the fabia, and gauge if it's going to be big enough for my future needs, and like you say, a buggy can come in all shapes and sizes i guess, and i'll more than likely get one to fit in easily! With my 1st daughter i drove a littel clio 5-door, and the buggy fit into that no problems at all, and i would imagine the Fabia will have a bigger boot than that.

Trigger, how tall are you? I am 6'2 and my seat is all the way back. There is no way anyone can sit behind me. Our maxi-cosi isofix has to go behind my wife as it has a leg to hit the floor. My wife has sat in the back for a short journey behind me and she is only 5'2 and I wouldn't recommend this for long journeys for her or me

Its something you will need to try yourself as we are all a little different, but I thought it be best to let you know. I guess when you go down there you can sit in it and try it for size and see how much space is behind your seat

I'd be gutted if i couldnt practically use one of these cars, for my budget, i dont think any other car can come near this model!

I can see me ending up with a renault Scenic or Vauxhall Vectra etc etc here! :-(

There's no doubt you really want a Fabia vRS.

Equally there's no doubt it's too small for your needs.

Im 6ft3 and the seat isnt fully back?

I can get my friends who are of average height (6ft-ish) on the back seats

Its all about fiddling to get the seat right

just like test driving a car, you need to test drive the buggy/car seat etc.

see if yo ucan find a vRS somewhere that'll let you take a test drive, take it to the pram shop, and try all the car+buggy combinations

we have a Jane Nomad pram chassis, and we have to remove the back wheels (they are quick release) to get the folded chassis in the boot of our Fabia vRS. If it there was just an inch extra from the boot to the seats it'd be fine without removing them.

Fabia VRS 03-07 hatchback bootspace is 260 litres

Fabia Saloon 01-07 bootspace is 438 litres

Fabia Estate/Combi 01-08 bootspace is 426 litres

Fabia Hatchback 07 onwards bootspace is 300 litres

Fabia Estate/Combi 08 onwards bootspace is 480 litres

I've got my 3rd little un on the way and for the last 12 months I'd driven a Vauxhall Astra G hatchback (370 litres bootspace). This ment I'd got to get a double pushchair (oldest is 10yrs old) to replace the single one we currently use that just about fitted into the Astra's boot if I removed the rear wheels (large inflatable tyre type). We bought a Graco Inline double pushchair (One in the front and one in the back) which folds over into half its size. This would only go in the Astra if I stripped its boot of everything including the parcel shelf. I'd looked at the 2000 onwards Ford Mondeo estate and the same year Vectra C estate. The Mondeo had the bigger boot but running costs were too high. Likewise for the Vectra.

I also looked at the Rover 75 2.0 TDI (Only consider Diesel version as the petrol engines have weak cylinder head gaskets) which has a massive boot. My dad had a 75 saloon in his garage so I thought I'd try the pushchair in it. Width and depth were fine but it had a problem with the height although this was the saloon and the estate would be perfect but the only ones I could find were petrol models.

I also looked at the Fabia hatch and Saloon. The hatch was a deffo no but the saloon was fine at a push as there was a slight problem with getting the pushchair past the boot shelf.

I tried the Fabia estate as well and it was spot on with plenty of space for bags and my daughter's medical equipment (air vent, feeding pump, portable suction machine and a SAT's monitor) in the boot as well as the new pushchair.

Found the model I wanted (1.4 16v Elegance with LPG conversion) and wish I'd have got one sooner :)

I know the 1.4 isn't very fast but its got good fuel economy, group 5 insurance and road tax @ £85.25 for 6 months can't be bad.

There's also the 1.9 PD diesel Fabia Estate which will have a lot more go and can be chipped for a lot more power :)

You might have a longer body than I do. I have fairly long legs and sit up rightm but need the seat as far back. I just wanted to make the OP aware that he may have issues. For me the Fabia is great as we only have the one little un on the way

Thanks all for the replies!

I fear my VRS dream may be dead after the weekend when i've taken a good look at one in a garage!

...i've already starting pricing up Vauxhall Vectra 1.9dti (150) SRi's! :'(

I have 2 kids and my 3rd one is being planned by the wife as we speak!!! I have a Fabia VRS and i'm looking into buying a 2nd one so me and my wife can both have them!

Me and my wife and my 2 current kids fit fine - and we all fitted in the car including the smallest ones pram and 2 suitcases in the boot. A roof box with 3 more suitcases in & a brilliant holiday in Germany - No space issues at all!

I love my VRS!

Why?

A Roomster will more than fit your needs. Remap it and it's quicker than a VRS too!

Not really into modifying cars in any way, shape or form. My previous cars have always stayed standard and have been good enough. It's just not for me, i prfer standard cars. I've had: Citreon AX GT, Fiat Bravo HGT, Renault Scenic (I know, i know!!!), BMW 323 Saloon and now the A4 1.8T Convertible, all have remaned standard.

I like the thought of the standard VRS, will more than meet my driving needs. Apart from the obvious boot space questions.

You can get more in them than you think - they are deceptive like that!

im 6ft 1 and their is enough room behind me for another adult. As for the boot, its plenty big!! Just get a pram to fit the car, that cant be to hard to find really. Live the dream, buy a fabia vrs lol:D

Well my VRS dream is dead! :'(

Had a look at a couple last weekend, and they're just a tad too small, i remember from my fisrt child the amount of crap we needed to transport around and when i looked at the VRS boot it would be just big enough for a buggy, but pretty much nothing else!

Also the white interior is another big flaw, with my 7 year old and a new born baby it would get ruined pretty quickly i would recon, so it looks like a sensible family motor for me. Now looking at 1.8 Diesel Focus's for a couple of years until i can get myself a smarter motor.

It may be worth looking at a MK 1 Leon FR 150 tdi. The boot is pretty huge for the size of car eg versus a Focus, Golf or Astra (I don't mention the Octavia in this list as whilst it may be built on the golf it certainly is a bigger car). It has the same engine in as the vRS and it pretty brisk.

Honda Civic also has a larger than average boot so may be also worth a look.

Trigger,

Get yourself some seat covers if you've worried about the seats! Or get them trimmed in leather! Seat covers will undoubtedly be cheaper on this one ;) have you actually tried putting a buggy in the back of one? The Fabia boot is quite deep (from my experience), so you can get more in than what you perceive!

Just for your info as well, Golf's have a lip in the boot on the Mk 4, which actually makes the boot narrower than a vRS's. This is the case on my friends MK 4 Golf in comparison to my vRS anyway!

Take your buggy down to the showroom and everything else you need and cram it all in! Trust me, it'll probably fit in!!
