Vrs_Dta's intercooler job so far

Featured Replies

right this started at the beginning of this week like this

034-1.jpg

then on tuesday night i put my car in the garage, put it up on stand and removed the front bumper n the crash bar

004.jpg

005.jpg

on doing this i then tried various methods to mount the intercooler as it is not a forge because i couldnt afford it lol and came up with this

002.jpg

this is on mock up brackets, i used the front bumber mounting to go off as it seemed to be the ideal place

017.jpg

018.jpg

so on doing this i offered up the crash bar to see if it fit and IT DIDNT lol so i marked it all up and done some measuring and found i had to take just over and inch out for it to fit snug

022.jpg

025.jpg

So any way i took it to work to get some modifications done but i couldnt resist on putting the bumper back on with out the crash bar it looked imense lol

026.jpg

027.jpg

BUT i wanted the crash bar on even tho it looked so good just for peace of mind that it is there as i dont know if the chassis legs would move when cornering of the likes and if i had a crash lol which i must say is not the greatest thing to do!

So any way here are some pics of the modified crash bar

029.jpg

i made proper brackets aswell while doing this it was just some 3mm ali plate cut to size

030.jpg

032.jpg

so any way seen as it fit i took it to work and welded tubes in the holes to try and keep a bit of strength and the painted the bar in black

well not yet as it is not plumbed in yet as i am waiting pipes but hopefully it should help towards the 200hp mark when i get it properly mapped but i am wanting a clutch and turbo nest before i visit jabba sport :giggle:

Looks good! What FMIC was that suppose to be on?

its off ebay it was ment to be for a celica i think i just measured the job up and got as cclose to the measurements as icould

It looks good. I guess when you plumb it in you will remove the existing SMIC, although you could if there is enough space, run both.

I wonder if you will need it remapping again or weather the ECU will just adapt to the cooler air. I hope you get it all done by the end of the month, as I can't wait to see it at the Moors met (If you're still coming)

Looking good. Are you planning on running the outlet side back under the cooler and up the oem route to the inlet?

looks sweet - gj

Looks nicely done :-). Always liked the Fabia with the "Big mouth" mod. Shouldve been that way as standard IMO, good work ;-)

well the plan was to make a flater bit of tube and run it underneath but i am looking in to running it up past the power steering pump and that way but it makes sense to just go back underneath what do you think and while i am on the case where did you get your sandwich plate for your oil cooler and sensor :giggle:

how we doin jim yea i wil be comin it wont be mapped yet though i am saving for a paddle clutch and turbo but the intercooler should be piped in and in action B)

Looks good

I want to remove the crash bar but like you I was wondering if the front of the car would flex when cornering etc ?

How have you fixed the mesh in your bumper ?

I'm wanting to sort mine as its not exactly the best of jobs !!!

Did you put the vrs badge on the grill ? got the part numbers ?

The first pic of the cooler mounted without the crash bar look absolutely awesome.

Great work

how we doin richard erm the front grill is held on with silli gastket aka instant gasket sealer lol and the vrs badge is off a new octi i got it from telfords it was about 11 quid i think its just on with double sided sticky tape it does the job. i think when jabba do the crash bar the cut it out or half the size i have seen some with it gone like but i jus drilled holes in and welded tubes in :giggle:

this is as tight 180 i could make so thats the reason y it hangs down on one end it can only be reckitified by moving the cooler up but that means cutting the bumper mounts off :giggle: and i wasnt doing that lol so i cut the bottom of the front bumper out to let it sit nice

cheers for looking feel free t ask

dave

Nice! that looks like it took alot of effort to fit that in!

Just a random idea (though u might've already tried this), is there space put the pipe behind the raidator?

Edit: (brain working backwards atm, not phrasing things properly..)

Nicely done, really love the look without the crash bar, looks evil! But none the less a very clean job all round

looks like you've went to a fair bit of bother to fit that in!!

a twin pass fmic would have been a far better bet though, seat sport or similar ;)
