Radar detector hardwire

Featured Replies

Has anyone hardwired a radar detector in their Octavia? Something like:

I had this done in my previous car (not a Skoda), but followed a tutorial which showed which one is the ignition wire in the top panel and so on. Has anyone done that?

I'd need that so I could plug in my GPS in my cigarette lighter.

Dont forget the use of such devices in the UK may well soon be illegal, just as it across the rest of europe. The only devices you can fit legally now without fear of prosecution are GPS based ones that alert you to camera locations, rather than active devices that detect radar.

If you have an octy2 then you need to run a supply direct to the fusebox since power switching of the car is all controlled by canbus.

Thanks, but I'm not in the UK and radar detectors are allowed in my country. So, I couldn't just do it all from the top panel (the one with the lights above the driver and passenger)?

I don't have my car yet, I'm ordering next week, it'll be a Octavia 2 RS.

There is no switched power up there, even the interior light circuit is active with the ignition off, It is quiet easy though to run a 12v feed down to the fusebox using the A pillar trim as its easily removed. You could get the negative supply from the light, but the positive would need to come from the fusebox.

Ok, thanks for the info, will probably do the mod once I get my car.
