Had a look at one for my brother. He wanted a Kuro but as they don’t make them any more he thought that the Panny would be a good alternative. Have to say imho it’s a very nice tv and looks better to my eyes than the Samsung etc. You looking to buy one? For the money they seem great value

No but I have a TXP46G15B which is spot on.

I have TH42-PZ81 plasma thats now 2 years old and used for 6hrs+ a day and still working perfectly, with no image retention despite many hours gaming on the xbox360.

I've got a TH-37PX7B at the moment, which in itself is a very good set, but is limited by having only one HDMI and 2 scart connections, plus the RGB. My mum is currently running an old 'square' non-digital, non-teletext Hitachi 24in, and I've convinced her that our's will go really well in her front room, and she's only got one DVD/Video player to plug into it.

It therefore makes sense to let her have our 'old' set, allowing us to update our's to a 42, with lots of extra connectivity and specification.

Our local Panasonic shop have the TX-P42X20B at £599 with a free 5-year warranty and 12 months interest free credit. I'm struggling to find a price on the internet much less than that without the warranty.

I think it’s the 720 one? But to be honest 108p is way overhyped especially on a 42†telly, unless you stit reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeal close :D Nice set though

I have a TXP42G10B with FREESAT its really good

I have a TXP42G10B with FREESAT its really good

I might price that one up too, but I'm not sure that the Freesat is worth the extra

That resolution is fine for a 42†imho and the colours and blacks more than compensate for any loss of lines. Sounds like a decent buy to me :)emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Anyone have any additional comments on the pros and cons of Freesat ?

I'm waiting a little while to get a 42/46 to replace my Pany42 which I've had trouble free for nearly 6 years. Probably will go for another 42 with Freeview HD and hopefully wireless connections, but I also want a HD HDD recorder at the same time so will wait on prices/availability. I was interested in Freesat HD but a large tree nearby is messing up the signal :( Most likely will be Panasonic again as I've been happy with this one its just not HD.

I have an LG freesat and freeview TV for about the last 4 months and I must say it is great! esp on bbc hd and ITV hd on freesat.

I would reccomend if it is not much more to get it beucase it allows you to have the best of both worlds.

Brimma, I have had the TX-P42X10 just over a year, the predecessor of the X20 and pretty much same spec.

Just my opinion but 720p/1080i resolution on 42" screen is fine, in fact on standard def it's almost universally

agreed to be better.

There's a lengthy thread on AV forums about black level issues on some Panasonic plasmas, I'll post a link,

think it's some chip that kicks in after 1000hrs that 'lightens' black levels to make panels last longer.

I've passed a thousand hours and not noticed any change in black levels.

As for Freesat, I've got it as a seperate box so I could get HD stuff for free, as there was no HD Freeview planned,

if I'd known Freeview HD was coming out, as it is, I would have waited for it, should be a better choice of

PVR's to choose from.

Here's the link, a lot of it goes over my head tbh

Thanks for the help again chaps (and chapesses)

Went to the Panasonic shop at lunch - the X20 was £599, the G20 (with Freesat) was £1099, so was a bit of a no-brainer really.

X20 being delivered on Friday :)

Loads of extra spec and bigger than the PX7 we've got at the moment, with a 5-year warranty - can't wait to have a play

I got the 46G10B which I have to say is amazing with a good feed signal. Freesat HD works well for us, as does Sky HD. Also worth considering, some sets with Freeview HD are now on the market.

I've already got Sky+, and didn't want loads more aerial cables coming in for the freesat, so I'll wait a while to see if I upgrade to Sky HD
