Towbar

Featured Replies

I am looking to get a towbar fitted to my Octavia, however, would much prefer a removable one, so it only gets fitted when wanting to tow, any idea how it would be best to go about this. Also wanted to check if this is classed as a modification by most insurance companies.

Also, does anyone have a rough idea of how much getting this done should cost?

I think Skoda offer one with a removable swan neck.

I think this is something that insurance companies ask you actually. I'm fairly sure I've been asked if I have a towbar fitted, and if I ever tow anything. I would think that's it's all to do with the fact that you're probably more likely to have an accident when towing. So your premium might pop up a touch. I'm not certain though.

Never been asked if I have a tow bar fitted to my car.... and never as such offered such information up when doing an insurance quote. I guess towing could make you more likely to have an accident, and thus a good reason for your premium to get bumped up  I probably only tow a smallish trailer (double bed size) a few times a year if that. There again I also have a bike rack which clamps into the towbar, and that *should* not cause me to have any more accidents (apart from looking at my bikes in the rear mirror as I drive along B) )

I bought a bar from ebay and fitted it (non-swan neck/removable), the bonus being it acts as a nice parking sensor :giggle:

Haha that's one of the perks of having a gr't big towbar on the back of my Samurai! Perfect parking sensor. When you hear the wall go crunch you know you're there! I've pimped my towbar too! Welded a nice big skid plate under it to stop it hanging me up when offroading.

I parked in a/the multistore in Salisbury one day, Backed into a space, carefully until the towbar touched the wall, and the front of the car was still hanging out of the bay! It is not like an Octy estate is *that* big!
