Did you have any other extras? My dealer rang today to say that the various bits of trim I had asked for were all on back order and will need to be done at a later date, sadly. Oh - and what sort of cost were they? They look really smart and substantial.

How much did the dealer charge you for the fitting?

How much did the dealer charge you for the fitting?

I thought it was cheap @ £55 for the fitting

The car was in for 2 Days as these things are a screw and glue fixing.

Indeed that is good value since I read in another thread that someone was charged £50 just to have the four mud flaps fitted!

Ouch and the mud flaps are just a few screws.

This is bonded and screwed to the car though you cant see any screws .. going to get it on a ramp tomorrow to have a good look at the fitting

Looks great!! I just wish they were a bit cheaper!!

Extras - - - Yes quite a few

Order Time - - - The side sills were at the dealer in around 2 days

Cost - - - Retal as in the Accessory book £346

I think they look ok fills the space and I do have in my possesion as of this evening some lateral strips with the ALU insert (Thanks to a friend comming back from europe) that I will get fitted tomorrow.

Cost - - - Retal as in the Accessory book £346

Were you by any chance also charged £65 for a 'fitting kit' consisting of 14 nuts and bolts and presumably the adhesive?

They do look great imo. emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Thanks.

No that was the only charges ... emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Hmm, as I guessed then. My local dealer also said that it was only the main parts for £340 ish that were required. I will take this up with supplying dealer then.

Thanks emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Having taken delivery, and posted some pics on the pic thread (well done me!) and looking again at this thread I have made a decision. I am going to use my £500 cashback and invest in these side mouldings.

I think the lower sill of the YETI looks a bit bare and ordinary, especially from down low (not that we are often down low) and i think they set the car off to a tee! (That could be a Lady P tee-hee).

So - it will be back to Sinclair Skoda soon, to get side mouldings, a towbar, side chrome flashings on the rubber straking bars, and the rear bumper protector fitted.

I will need to wear sunglasses to look at him.

I will need to wear sunglasses to look at him.

Get some good red Brecon mud on it, then you won't need those sun glasses!!

KGA630001 - Lateral Strips with Alu insert

To complete the look

Was going to have the decorative side protection mouldings put on my Yeti but decided on these instead:

yeti_ss_sidesteps.jpg

Stainless Steel Side Steps from a German company called Cobra. With all the other aluminium look trim I'm having put on (including the lateral strips) it should look quite nice.

Looks good nothing quite like shiny bits emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Check how much those side steps project below the sills, and how much they reduce the vehicle clearance. Check how they are mounted. Lots use rivnuts through thin metal and therefore will not take any weight.

Also think how much they stick out the side as you are getting in and out. On a Freelander they give you a muddy mark up the back of the trouser leg.

Thanks for the tips. They're at the dealers now but I'll go and check with them about the mounting details when my Yeti finally arrives (which shouldn't be long now). I should imagine I might lose a little in ground clearance but, at the end of the day, I'm not going to be doing any major off-road stuff in the car. Two reasons for getting them - 1.) cosmetic (obviously!) 2.) a little more added side protection against, amongst others, the mindless supermarket shoppers who think nothing of swinging their car door into the side of yours.

Helo Dave,

There is no solution to the supermarket shioppers and their door dings. The doors are all well rounded top to bottom, and might still hit the paint on your car. Parking further away - and as some do, across two spaces at an angle is the only possibel soulution. OK if there is lots of feree space, but a bit cavalier, nevertheless.

My concern with the steps between the front and back wheels is that they will get covered in the crud thrown up from the front wheels. IMHO, having a muddy step is not cool.

Sorry for the Steptoe'ish attitude, but I'm of the right age - and would rather spend the money on a nice set of winter wheels than adding cosmetics to the car.

Would it help or hinder Granny getting in and out?

Hi Agerbundsen,

Points taken. After being the unfortunate victim of a careless and ignorant neighbour (long story which I won't go into here), collecting no fewer than 5 dents into the side of the last new car I had within the space of a couple of months of purchase (I live in an apartment with a communal car park), I have become somewhat even more paranoid than normal about my car getting dinged. I have always parked as far away as possible in supermarket car parks (especially with the TT) but no matter where you park, one always seems to attract the old bangers that, sometimes, park so close, they must have difficulty getting out.

I know there will be other parts of the car that could get hit quite as easily (wheel arches for example). As you say, doors are well rounded but I think having the side steps just gives me a little extra psychological comfort in that area. They might attract the crud but I've alway enjoyed cleaning my pride and joy (at least once a week) and I intend having mudflaps put on so I don't think they'd ever get too bad. Always liked sidesteps on 4x4s and these are stainless steel, not aluminium, so they should look extra cool. Oh, and regards age... I'm 49. emoticon-0103-cool.gif

Dave,

the "steps" will do nothing to protect you from the supermarket dings, they are much too low and don't stick out far enough. I can guarentee that the one thing they will do is get covered in crud and get the bottom of your trousers dirty. (Even worse they will do the same for SWMBO!!)

Nightmare... :o Grandma would be on her bottom!! in the mud :'( ...

and Daughter (me!) would get her legs / trousers caught on them and muddy too  ...

as Llanigraham points out they are not a girls or or S/HWMBOs best friend nor any smart trendy guy B) Yeti owners out there who are are "clothes horses" either :giggle:

BUT they do look cool B)

Ah well! The sacrifices one makes for looking cool eh? Guess I'll just have to clean the monster a little more often and be a bit more careful when climbing aboard.
