Big Problems..........

Featured Replies

Had the Fabia into a main dealer to check the ABS fault and they have found the reason that my fuses under the bonnet kept blowing was a faulty heaterplug (number4) its been replaced and the fuses have stopped blowing. Now the ABS fault isnt the ABS pump its the wiring to the unit which has corroded badly and the main dealer have suggested that it will need a new section of look at £980+vat for one section and £560+vat for the other section. Am I getting bent over the service desk and handed the KY?

Saw something about this - think MoggyTech posted it - but the main loom runs alongside a part of the car where water will collect or something, the post was saying it could affect a lot more Fabias over time. (I tried looking, but couldn't find it.) The threads below though seem to suggest the same sorta thing has happened to them - with that in mind, maybe you could try claiming on the grounds it's an inherent design flaw, and should be rectified anyway? I doubt it'll work, based on the bushes and the piston rings on the 1.4's being overlooked, but might be worth a try?

Maybe worth trying to find a scrapped one, and hooking it up yourself, but then there's every chance it'll happen again. Not good either way, and I hope it's gets sorted without too much outlay!

If it is the loom then thats a pretty bad design flaw! any pics of the location and any way to stop this happening to other people?

The exat same thing happend to my car but it affected the wiper circut instead but it cost no where near £980 + vat to repair..

Ouch. My thoughts on this. The loom should have had better sleeving, or been run through a different location. Cleaning the plenum chamber is on the Skoda service list, so if the car has a full service history, Skoda should foot the bill as the part is not fit for purpose, given than wires should not wear out or corrode. My Morris 1000 has most of the original 41 year old wiring, and it's all perfect.

Given the labour involved, Skoda will try anything to wriggle out of any claim.

Looks like it is the loom - I have taken the car away from the main dealers and left it with an independant that I trust!

Just need to get a new look section sorted out!

Where abouts is it then? Would it be worth having a look at/checking it's not damp?

Ok - local independant rocks! Car is sorted with a replacement section of loom - total bill £586+VAT!!!! Still a pain in the wallet, but could have been worse. Cant wait to get it back now!
