Quirky Niggles!

Featured Replies

The fact that there are so many of us here who love our Yeti's and so few with any real problems is a real credit to Skoda for making such a fabulous vehicle full of character.

As with all cars there are some things which not even annoy but slightly irritate from time to time........I'm not talking faults here but what are the things that you think oh I wish it didn't do that or did do this.....

I will start:

When maneuvering it is all too easy to move the right hand rotary dial on the steering wheel and change the display of the multi function display / computer.....

Just this morning I used the "max" button to clear the windscreen, upon returning to the auto setting the recirc setting i had previously selected was not re-selected (leave it on auto recirc, but it returned to no recirc at all)

When using the left rotary dial to mute the radio (pressing it does this), when re-pressing the 'button' it does not return to the previously selected volume but is quieter. :wonder:

Maybe there are settings that I can change for some of the above, if anyone knows then do tell...

Anyone else have any quirks / nuiances they would like to share?

To be clear this is a fun thread and in no way should it be used to criticize our beloved vehicles. B)

Oh and heres hoping we all have a fabulous weekend...the forecast is great for where we are...barbeque time!! :cocktail: :sun:  :sun:

My only Niggle is this:

The location of the inside rear mirror is too low - it gets in the way often on right turns and bends. (Left hand drive - on the right side of the road). Going up hill on right turn hairpin bends are the worst - not that we have any here in DK, but we do travel in other places.

Yes, I guessed someone may mention that......how tall are you if you don't mind me asking. My self and my partner are 1.7m (5'7") tall and don't find that a problem, does it effect taller drivers more I'm guessing?

Yes it does (6'1"). I have put my seat in the lowest position so that I can see under the mirror. I am used to it now but I would have liked to raise the mirror about 2".

Skoda warn against using recirc in the Manual so, I guess, it is a non preferred selection so they would make sure it was switched off when given the opportunity.

The radio left hand button is the "ON/OFF" button so when you switch it back on it will revert to the volume setting you have set it to in the presets (under the Tone button) If your radio is a Bolero use the Phone button to Mute.

How can I setup the left rotary dial to mute? When I press this, it activates voice control. I really want a mute button.

My own little niggles:

1. Wish I could stop the sunroof blind closing on it's own overnight.

2. Need a mute button for the radio.

3. Having to press the brake pedal to go from neutral to drive.

Sound like you may have voice control? I do not......the left rotary works as a mute button in mine.

Tefryn....to be clear I was referring to the left rotary dial on the steering wheel (my apologies for not making this clear)...

No visible clock for the passenger - niggles me that SWMBO keeps asking what the time is!

No rear seat belt indicators

Not a great deal to moan about really!!

wing mirrors that fold away at a press of a button... ... ...

The Left Rotary button on the steering wheel acts the same as the left knob on the radio (I think) You can set up the initial "switch on" volume using the settings (under the TONE button (musical notes)) (This is for the Bolero)

There's a clock display on the radio panel on mine...

I used to be 180 cm - 6'0", but one slumps with age. I also like to have the seat high, which makes it worse.

The Ambition does not have any buttons or dials on the steering wheel, so no problems there. The Columbus automatically turns the radio or MM off with phone calls (Parrot) so no problems there either. The button on the left Coumbus dial turns the sound off and the dial is easy to hit and turn without looking if you need to turn the sound down when talking to passengers.

It did take me a while to figure out the two different lights on the Auto button on the AC - high and low fan speed - and the same with the Recirculate button, but now that I have worked the functions out, it is OK. The text and symbols on the AC buttons are not easy to see with bifocals, but I do not see how they could have been bigger without klutzing the lay-out up.

Yes, the two auto settings are new to me in any car....took some time to work that out and a look at the manual! :dull:

I know this is a little off topic but I was looking through a Golf brochure I have lying around. Our Yeti's are very well equipped you know in comaprioson. the Bolero unit is a cost option on even the most expensive (30k+) Golf!! :giggle:

I hate the KM's read out and wish there was a red marker on the speedo at 30 MPH. :@

My only Niggle is,

My Muscovado DSG Yeti is ready at the dealer awaiting private plate, (7 days and counting)

Its good to get owners thoughts on actual features on the Yeti, and getting tips on said features, all constructive of course. :D

one thing today hit me - as I took the seatbelt off, and let it go, it whipped back and hit the painted bit between the window and the B pillar. In a previous car it got all chipped and messed up, so i will be very vcareful from now

Not much in the way of niggles for me but then I have only done about 600 miles so far. I would say though that I don't think that I have settled on a perfect driving position yet. If I set the seat low I get a good view of the instruments but lose some of that 4x4 driving position. If I set the seat too high then I can't quite get the steering wheel in the right position. I'll get there soon and I've not been uncomfortable just a little restless until I find the perfect set up. Overall it is a cracking car.emoticon-0148-yes.gif

p.s. I think that it is a good idea to have a niggles thread running. It would help the manufacturer to iron out any design flaws for the facelift or next generation model if this info can be fed back to them.

Agreed there Ray

Niggles:

Trying to open the boot after I've unlocked the car - still forget about the boot button.

Kids trying to get in to the car after I've unlocked the car - still forget to press the fob twice for everyone else.

The car faces the wrong way on the screen when you're using the sensors! :giggle:

Whistling door seals. Will sort this out when my tolerance threshold has been exceeded.

The correct rear seatbelt buckle holders hide under the kids' car seats so the kids slot the buckle into the middle seat ones (don't know if this has safety implications).

Volcanic ash more attracted to the Yeti than any other car on my street.

Some reason my home number on my mobile comes up with the numbers rather than 'home' in the memory on the Yeti screen and I can't figure out how to edit it.

Front sensors have to be switched on if you are parking forward into a space and want to get close to a wall/kerb etc (I have Park Assist and the front sensors go on automatically if you are reversing into a space).

Depressingly large manual to detail all the amazing options. Although female, I have the male characteristic of thinking, once I've flicked through it once, it is somehow 'weak' to look through the manual again. Therefore causing fustrations listed above and below.

p.s. how many times do I press the fob to lock it?! Does pressing it twice do anything different than pressing it once?! Left the window open the other day and liked the 'pressing lock for a long time closes all the windows' feature.

I agree too! The absence of the 30mph marker on the speedo is particularly frustrating.

Other minuses:- Paintwork on leading edge of rear wheelarches needs some sort of protection, DLRs in fog lights has led to comments from others as to why I always have my fog lights on,

Unexpected pluses: The tinted glass insulates the interior well - recent sunshine has not resulted in a baking leather seat! If you leave the windows open, they close automatically if it rains.

Charlie, regarding the door unlocking. There is a setting on the setup allowing you to unlock all doors with one click (instead of just the drivers door), also I pretty sure holding down the unlock button will open the windows. From what you said it sounds like you have it setup to unlock the drivers door with the 1st click then the rest on the 2nd. You can also set them up to lock as you drive away, have you done that?

Agreed about the sensors, most cars are the same though, my BMW is the same. Although a Land Rover Disco I had once they were on permanently - preferred that.

No rear speakers on a car with

  • air-conditioning (even in the glove box!)
  • 16" alloys
  • front fogs
  • electric rear windows
  • electrically adjustable and heated door mirrors
  • on board computer... ... ... ...

why??? emoticon-0127-lipssealed.gif

One handy hint if you have the Columbus you can alter the volume of the navigation voice (independent of the music volume) by turning the volume contol whilst she is actully speaking. It amuses me how 'Birmingham' is spoken with a Brummie accent thanks to the computerised voice... emoticon-0136-giggle.gif

I too am a bit miffed about the rear wheel arch paint chips but then the roads have been in an atrocious state. I would suggest that all YETIs should be fitted as standard with the protective film, thought (by TP) to be part of the off-road kit.

My only niggle (discounting my occasionally tuneful dash; bless her :giggle: ) is having SUK as the importer

Bling instead of practicality; humbug

I sense you may have read the manual!

I think TP is correct. I have the off road pack and protective film on the rear doors.
