Quirky Niggles!

Featured Replies

Good morning folks :sun: (Graham you're up early again  are you at work this weekend?)

My previous reservations/ comments on Hettie the Yeti are on this thread...so do check it out:

http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/155500-yeti-reservations-comments/

In addition I agree with Freshacre about the seatbelt whipping back as I have a habit of just letting it ping as well and my other half has been looking at me aghast! :peek: :

I am dancing around delerious with happiness as my lad who was stuck in South Africa with his school rugby tour is due to land at Heathrow in 23 minutes!!!

Ya Hoo

I'll list my gripes in no apparent order

  • no techno deer deterrent devices
  • the bingly-beep isn't switch off-able or volumisable (new word there?) when bluetooth phone marries/divorces with the monster
  • having a spare tyre is a compromise
  • steering wheel is a tad dinky in diameter compared to previous Octavia (which was perfect)
  • SUK is not just an acronym for Skoda UK importer, it encompasses their business philosophy
  • no automated attachment that activates and "beats 'em to a bloody pulp" (ok...at the very least, dings some sense into 'em) when folks approach and enquire, "is that a Skoda?"
  • when the inevitable 7 seat version emerges from Skoda design department as a big brother to snow-monster (on the superb platform?) they won't call it the Sasquatch

I'll cede the point in advance that some are left-field at best....though if that's the sum of my gripes then they truly have put a cracking wagon together :)

I sense you may have read the manual!

Oh yes....it was all part of the waiting process. i downloaded a copy and read it while awaiting delivery! ;)

Has anyone else found that sometimes the bluetooth symbol displays when paired, and sometimes not ?

(Met my wife for lunch yesterday - she took the yeti for a clean in the morning. As she passed me as a

I was stood in the carpark my BB was trying to pair as she drove past !

A bucket of water usually calms any BB down. Take it to the vet!

Bore Da

Yes working today and tomorrow, but at least tomorrow it is an 0900 to 1800 shift!!

Ready and waiting, Guv'nor!

My BB is female - having a USB socket, rather than plug...

Niggles 1) Loss of boot space with spare wheel option

2) Lack of passenger visible clock

3) Intermitent squeekrattle from the smooth 'arched' bit of dashboard above steering wheel column.

4) Lack of anything major to complain about :rofl:

Niggles of a "not yet" owner:

1) lack of folding front passenger seat (useful for long items and a pitty as it already exist in other VAG group cars like the Golf Plus)

2) missing spare wheel recess, which leads to a loss of space (if spare wheel option)

3) centre back seat not sliding like the other two, which means that to make more room for the luggage you don't get a sqarish boot.

4) ashtray in unconfortable position (out of sight). It would have been enough to have a retractable cup holder high up on the dash

5) lack of electrically folding mirrors

6) inner soundproofing of bonnet only on high trims

7) chip protection on rear doors (wheelarches) not standard (and if it is part of the offroad package it is not available to 2 wheel drive vehicles)

8) front bumper likely to touch on the painted part rather than the black plastic. For a vehicle that has a good solution on the sides and the back (bumper and side plastic) it looks like an unnecesary compromise to the aesthetics

9) If the plastic cover of the top luggage space (over the dash) had a sliding opening it could have been a wonderfull place for a tomtom or alikes (to lie flat and out of sight when not used, just to be lifted up when needed). As it is i guess that the sat reception is blocked by the lid.

10) A fin style aerial would have been friendlier with the washing "pitstops".

11) None of the standard tyre sizes allow snow chains (at least in Italy). The reduced sizes which allow it can only be used if they are snow-tyres (the official specs in Italy allow for the 2 alternatives, but they are officially classified and allowed only as winter tyres, so you cannot put a "normal" tyre different than 225/50 R17 or 215/60 R16.

It almost defeats the point of it.... you can only put snow chains on snow tyres!

12) Expensive choice of tyre measures, and the choice of an economically sound snow tyres alternative requires change of wheels. My personal idea is that it is all due to pure fashion reasons... and not technically "needed", considering that 15 years ago on an Audi 100 S4 230HP the top standard wheels were 225/50 R16 (I owned that car for 5 years)

13) the orientation and angle of the steering wheel could have been better for wider driving position choices and better visibility of the instruments.

14) door height reduces the ease of access to the car, that has an otherwise very ample internal height

15) proximity and keyless entry/ignition would have been a nice option

16) the "light" colour interior and two tone upholstery version is "sand"; It goes well with very few outside colour. a "light grey" would have been easier to match with almost all colours

I struggled to find as many points as I could... and i wouldn't be bother to write down the hundreds of good points... ;-)

I agree with 1, 2, 3, 5, 7 and 16 of the above.

I'd add (though I think it's been mentioned before) that the cowls on the instruments should have been angled towards the centre to provide a better view of the dials and there really ought to be clearer markings on the speedo for UK speed limits.

The brochures should have more detailed information, particularly on the things like the tow bar electrics, etc.

Not really a grip, but I wonder if instead of the parcel shelf they might have provided a retractable cover like the Octavia Combi.

Other than that (oh, and also it's not available in Race Blue!) there's nothing wrong with the Yeti

1 niggle is that they are not offered in Barbados (stupid eu3 fuel down here)

Would love to have one

Pancomau,

You must either be a Toyota dealer...or Y4YETI s twin...

Sweet Lord no, not a twin :o

Having past a couple of months reading and following this forum, I can understand the lady's comment ;-)

Although I too think that the extreme discussions made by the mentioned member about snowchains have turn to be to the detriment of his cause, I must say that, having done my homework, I too find "not very nice" that some theoretical "options" remains theory (possibility of using chains).

It is not a blocking aspect for me, and that is why I put it in the quircks, rather than under the name of fault or similar topic.

Proof is that I'm still convinced to order one, I just normally like to know the facts before making the choice.

In the end I will likely buy 4sparewheel+rubber. I have never done it for my previous cars as the place where I live doesn't get very cold temperatures for prolonged periods, and winter tyres are suited best below 7 degrees (celsius).

But unfortunatelly very often i travel to Genoa, and during winter the suburban area of that province has a requirement to carry snowchains or to have winter tyres. I never found myself in the need for actually using them, but the law requires it.....

About the "toyota dealer".... i must admit that I'm not sure of what made you think I'm one... but even my Toyota dealer sometimes seems to think I'm one... ehehehehemoticon-0140-rofl.gif

Is probably my embedded nitpicking attitude? emoticon-0136-giggle.gif

Anyway.... if you think I'm nitpicking about the Yeti you should have read my posts in the italian Toyota forum before i bought that one!emoticon-0104-surprised.gif

No car is perfect (otherwise nobody would buy a different one again... and again.... and again...)

My only real complain during real life of the Toyota is that it is too large for my new Box.... so I'm downsizing to the nearest match; Toyota doesn't have in my eyes something to match the Yeti below the 440cm, and the RAV would just about fit but it has more flaws than the yeti.

The real decising factor for me has been the DSG.

I always wanted an auto but never came to term with the drawbacks of the other technologies (i.e. fuel consuption to the roof).

Mercedes 7gear would have been as nice as..... but at twice the cost (to start with!)

So out of Peugeot3008 (disgraceful relyability stats, rattles and assembly mishaps), RAV (too much money, ackward bonnet opening, about to reach end of model life), Merc GLK (too much!), Quasqai (not really "nice" and overpriced), Kuga (too high fuel consuption and premium price for a non-premium brand and car), the only one with a good auto and a good value for money (IMO) remains the Yeti.

But this doesn't mean that it couldn't be made better then already isemoticon-0105-wink.gif

You can according to the latest handbook fit chains to the standard Yeti wheels (rim's & tyres) but only the rears; so only of use if you have the 4 paw version.

TP

edit now please can we leave chains until next winter and enjoy a nice warm summer  :giggle:

Do you think chains would be useful in soft sand?

I'll get my coat!

Yeah, I guessed someone may mention that......how tall are you if you don't mind me asking. My self and my partner are 1.7m (5'7") tall and don't find that a problem, does it effect taller drivers more I'm guessing?

Do you think chains would be useful in soft sand?

I guess I may have missed a point somewhere, but addressing the question of soft sand: No the chins will not help.

Actually the best for soft sand is NO thread pattern whatsovever - so the standard raod tyres would be fine. If I can find iot, I have a pic of my Suburban on top of Sleeping Bear Dune in Michigan.(Google it!)

You had to be very careful with regular off-road tyres, or you dug yourself into the axles with a little too much power. Of course, pro-racing in sand uses tyres with shovels on them to use the reactionof shovelling the stuff aft to go forward. No really yeti contry me thinks.

I'll get my coat!

Agerbundsen,

it was a joke!!

Agerbundsen,

it was a joke!!

I was afraid of that.

Duh....... :(

Too small room for my sunglasses in roofconsole.

I think the paint around the lower part ot the wheel arch by the passenger doors get damaged easily , the area should

have been done in stoneguard paint but wasn't so after five thousand miles and a harsh winter with water based paint mine was chipping

noticably.

After reading on hear about the guards available with the off road package I investigated and purchased them (Thanks T.P) now they

are fitted the damage has been stopped and protected for about fourty pounds (a worthy investment)

Part numbers:

5L0 807 905 B (Protective foil left)

5L0 807 906 B (Protective foil right)

P.s Easy to fit aswell use a bit of soapy washing up liquid on car then apply so it moves into place then push the water

out and leave to dry the car has 8500 miles now with no further damage

I have a new one! I am trying to ignore but my husband mentioned it annoyed him today (without me telling him about it). I have a storm blue Yeti (fairly dark). When we are travelling on certain roads, the white dashed lines in the centre of the road are reflected in the painted bit of the door inside (at eye height). This gives a flickering effect which is headache inducing. Haven't a remedy for this unfortunately. Anyone else noted this?
