OK, OK, it's not *technically* a Skoda question, but seen as it's still a VAG car and the parts are largely interchangeable..........

I've been pricing up some FK Konigsport Coilovers for the Passat I now own (and I've still got the Octy - guess which I took to work this morning ;) ).

However, on clubb5, Erik@AAT suggests that the KW's are a better proposition as they last longer, esp. in view of issues like salt corrosion.

Ok, it's about

KW1 = Height adjustable

KW2 = Height adjustable, combined bump and rebound adjustment

KW3 = Height adjustable, seperate bump and rebound adjustment

IMHO, the 3s are the best as you can more finely tune the set up. With the 2s you are stuck with the parameters that their engineers decide upon, whereas I'd prefer to get it how I want it.

If you can afford the extra, get the Varient 3s.

But for someone who just wants to replicate the firmer ride of an Octavia, with less roll and much less float, won't the KW2#s be alright?

I just don't really want to spend over

Yep I (from a less informed viewpoint than RS) would say KW2 will do you just fine unless you're intending on any serious track use.

Why does it need to be a coilover ? A fixed height suspension from KW, Eibach or H&R is around 500E comparing to 1000E+ for the KW V2 or 3 ! I've also been told by the engineers from H&R that the coilovers are sportier but the suspension kits offer a better comfort !

I want something between sport and comfort. Some would say that the current set up is very comfortable. It's soft and marshmallow-y compared to the Octavia Mk1.

The thing with the fixed height kits is that you have no say in fine-tuning the set-up to your preference. I think that's a featue I'd like - most of the time, I travel alone, so stiff and "uncompromising" appeals more than a "softer", compliant ride that would be required when travelling 4 up with luggage..........

Mates just got a TDI passat too. It's an auto though so he's worried that a remap will be no good for it.

HE's going for new suspension too.
