My new MX5

Featured Replies

Well as some of you may remember few weeks ago I posted about getting a 2nd car, well I have now skint myself but after something at work I think the outlook of spend it while you can springs to mind!

I have had 2 kit cars but because they are built by a man in a shed generally I have had 2 dodgy ones and I didn't want another one I wanted a car I could enjoy and use

So I got a MX5 on a 93 Vspec S so comes with lowered and stiffer suspension, limited slip diff, alot more horses, ECU, Light weight Flywheel, engine brace, front and rear body kit, kitted out interior, hard top a leather cover for the roof when its down............ and loads more not many Vspec S's about in the world left , I saw one in a scrapyard rusted to hell go for 2500 so I knew cuz I wanted someone a bit special but I would maybe have to go for one that wasn’t 100% perfect for the money.

I drove it back 100 miles mainly motorway sooooooooo good points is the fantastic drive, I have never had a car corner this well totally amazing!

Also just been MOT and had 6 months tax so if nothing goes wrong I don't have to dip hand in pocket for a while!

So what were the comprimises..............

Well there was very little service history which I was very weary about ............ but I done full HPI and took a mechanic down with me and he was very happy with it so I was and a Vspec S in mint condition and with full service history was going on ebay for 3999 so my 2900 did take that into consideration

The inside is a bit tatty needs some bits of rubber replaced and some leather repair on the seats and dashboard but very solid apart from that no rust.

2 dints that are noticeable one in the middle of bonnet when someone has pushed it down to hard and one on wheel arch

And apart from that nothing that I have noticed really.......... soft and hard top in great condition, steering is spot on, brakes are good, gears still feel very good, didn't miss a beat in the 100 miles back no over heating, no drops in speed no juddering no rattles etc etc

So overall I am very happy I wish I could of afforded 4000 to get exactly a prime example but I cant and this one is lovely needs a bit of TLC and thats it!

Looks tidy enough!

Not a fan of the wheels!

Excellent choice B)

so you got the hard top with it?.. thats worth 400-500quid on its own!

also notice youve got what looks like a proper mazda wind-breaker behind the seats... they are worth a pretty penny too!

Im just trying to figure out what model it is, it looks lower than a normal S-spec model!

That thing looks very nice. :thumbup:B)

The year I got my car, I was offered a Mk 2 MX-5 from a mate in my Motor club and I did think seriously about buying it, but didn't in the end.

There are a few MX-5 forums out there to give you advice, I'm sure there is a Tyne-Tees one as well.

Most decent models had headrest speakers!.. also, mine had (i say had is they aint connected now) "thumpers" in the seat backs, which are like subwoofers but without the speaker cone.. so you feel the bass but dont hear it... awesome!

Must be about time we has an MX5 sub-forum the amount that seem to be appearing.

Bilstien suspension its very low infact a bit to low keep scraping it on every bump no matter how slow I am going!

Ahh right that makes sense... you will have the OE bilstein shocks (like i do) plus some aftermarket springs..

The problem is the springs are designed for standard shocks, the billys spring perch is 10mm lower than standard... so the end result is lowering + 10mm (and itll be ruining the handling running that low)

Nice looking MX5 - sounds like you got a good deal indeed with all its bits.

I'd get some sensible springs on, but other than that, just enjoy it!!

I got mine last week too, yours makes mine look positively on stilts!!!

I spend most my time on PH, mx5nuts and occasionally mx5oc

Youll probably find if you want to change your suspension.. the cheap way would be via mx5nuts, offer to swap your bilstein shocks for someones normal shocks.. or buy a set of KYB shocks and sell the billies on nutz... theres always someone who will buy them.

maybe we should get our own forum now B)
