Yeti insurance - can anyone recommend a company?

Featured Replies

Am looking for a decent insurer - there seem to be SOOO many cowboys out there. My current insurer of my van (Gladiator) are charging me £140 to cancel the policy! Outrageous

Hi Retro Gal,

I check my insurance through 'Confused.com' yearly (18,000 pa, buisness miles, but hit 50 last year so that probably helps) and I'm with Churchill (not the cheapest, but within about £30). You shouldn't have the cancel your policy, can't you get them to change the vehicle and just pay a change fee to take you through to normal renewal time?

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Tony

Because I am going from a van to a car, Gladiator are treating it as a new 12 month contract. To take out the car insurance with them is nearly £200 more than other companies...Aviva sound ok so may go with them

Hi Retro gal,

I shopped around and found that the best balance of quality cover and price was with Nationwide (as in the Building Society). I paid £309 for fully comp with legal cover and NCD protection. This is based on cover for me and Mrs Shrub, 14000 miles pa and full NCB.

Shrub:)

Hi Retro G, try the following:

NFU Mutual Insurance (incl. 2yrs Old for New) replacement within policy.

Chris Knott Insurance

A-Plan Insurance

Brentacre Insurance

Hope this helps, Jonathan

They've quoted me roughly £130 - £140 to cancel...Absolute sharks

I'm currently with Admiral, cheapest this time round for us by far. Always have a good shop round use sites such as confused.com Tried the meerkat last year and they kept ringing me for days afterwards, gave them a miss this last renewal.

Thanks. I'm reluctant to go with Admiral as they own Gladiator who are stripe up merchants...have you made any claims with them?

I was on the phone to them today for 30mins and got nowhere. They quoted me £420 to insure my yeti but if you click on the car quote button on their website, it directs you to the admiral website which quoted me £230 but they are insisting I pay Gladiator the £140 cancellation fee (even though they are part of the same company/group). It's a joke

No to be honest and obviously hope not too. At the end of the day though from a customers point of view they are all rip off merchants as their in the business of making money not paying it out.

Last claim made (Norwich Union) we thought it had all been settled, nearly a year later started getting threatening calls and letters from a solicitor; turns out Norwich Union had not paid the other insurer as it had been settled strangely at 2/3 our blame 1/3 theirs :wonder:

Got hit side on pulling out of a side road by a driver who was indicating to turn in but changed their mind and changed direction into my wife's car. Great!!!

What a nightmare! They really are all sharks I think...I believe Norwich Union are now trading as Aviva who I was planning on going with...oh dear

As others have suggested check moneysupermarket.com and confused.com.

I have found that Saga were the most competitive but that may give a clue as to my age!

Has anyone got a quote from 'Skoda' insurance - iirc its backed by Alliance?

I took the freebie seven day cover with them and thought what the hell, I'll let her give me a 12 month quote while im on the phone...

She asked what the best quote was so far so I told her; £495. We ran through the details and she came up with £369. Thats for me and the missus both fully comp with protected NCD! Looking over the policy details, its spot on. It includes all the little extras as standard that previously I had to pay extra for - legal protection, courtesy car etc and it also appears that the policy treats the panoramic roof as a standard glass claim with £60 excess. The cheapest policy I was quoted on that had that benefit was £900 with Zurich!

That's a great price. Unfortunbately Skodas quote was high for me

I dont know a single person who has ever used the legal cover - any success stories on here ?

Just be glad you don't live in Northern Ireland for insurance. Ever notice how many adverts have excludes Northern Ireland on them? We really do get ripped off here.

The insurance for our vrs octy was due at end of Feb and we were quoted over £600 from the AA, up from £365, but they could get it down to £500, so went on one of the comparison sites and got a quote. Best was RAC at £250 for basic cover, and just under £300 with protected ncd etc. Both drivers over 50 (just) and clean licenses. So we took it out with them. Then decided to change cars a week later and bought the Yeti 170 Elegance 4x4 and only cost us 63p more for the year. (The Octy was 11 months old at renewal)

My son's insurance was due for renewal for his Abarth 500 and got a quote from the RAC again a lot cheaper than he had been quoted and then went on www.webeatanyquote.com and got the same cover with RAC for £80 less. So shop around and then try that site.

As for legal cover, it's one of those great unanswerable questions. I have never used the legal cover with my policies but have used the RAC legal services twice over 30 years ago when I was rammed by two teenage drivers on separate occasions and sustained injuries and financial losses. For £10 at the time the legal people handled the case, recovering damages, transport costs, loss of earnings etc etc, in fact everything including money that couldn't normally be claimed on a normal claim. You will probably only need to use these services once in a lifetime and your one claim will probably pay out more than you have paid for the legal cover over the years. You have to remember it's insurance and gives you peace of mind, just compare it to your house insurance, you pay every year and may never make a claim, but when you need to claim for any damage you have the policy in place to fall back on. You pays your money.............

Be very careful with Aviva (or Norwich Union). They quote you happy but they make you unhappy when you try to explain things to them.

I have two instances with them, one was when a allegedly stolen car crashed into the back of me, it took them 2 months to pay out (fully comp). Second instance was when after sending them 3 NCB letters, all of which are recorded signed for, they cancelled my policy when I was abraod on holiday, and didn't refund me until after 4 months, despite it being completely their fault and me chasing them almost on a daily basis!

Their service is appalling, but I would rather pay a little more and go elsewhere - I am with Directline now, around 30 quid more, but haven't had problems yet, seems more professional over the phone too!

Just to let you know I am not an insurance salesman, I am still studying.

I use Admiral multi car policy-its costing me £165 for fully comp, protected no claims and nil voluntary excess.

This means that my Yeti is cheaper to insure than my previous Fabia VRS, and is only £15 more to insure than my wifes VW Polo 1.2, :giggle:

I took the 7 days free cover from Skoda, and was quoted £265 if I stayed with them, or £215 if I took their £50 cashback.

I tried all the insurance comparison sites like Confused, Swift, etc and none of them could get near the Admirial figure.

Hello all.

I cant believe some of the prices you guys are paying/quoted.

I went on money supermarket .com and got a quote for.....................................................wait for it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

£151.38p fully comp

Unfortunately, i havent got my car yet, so hoping it will be that low again, when it finally arrives :p

Just another tip, look on quidco.com and see if they have any car insurance deals, then go on compare site. If some of the lowest quotes on compare site are on quidco site, go through quidco and you can get more money off. My friend got here car insurance for £89 fully comp for year.....YES it is possible if you are prepared to spend abit of time.

God just read that all back...hope it makes some sort of sense to you all. :giggle:

Edited to say just done another search and got £146.00 with endsleigh. Maybe cause i live on IOW only drive bout 10 miles per year :giggle:

OOOO, just another thought, if Quidco.com doesnt come up trumps, try other cashback site. But only genuine sites. Alternatively go to Martin`s money saving expert site which will give all credited cashback sites and give you step by step instructions of how to get more for your money....Good luck  This not only applies to car insurance but all sorts of things.
