VRS 4WD conversion

Report function wouldn't work on PM! and FYI, I didn't reply to it anyway, at 37 I think I'm abit above that, if my original comment offended for whatever reason then I apologise.

As Si mentions it is a fantastic motor not sure if it is the original posters, as his signature says 'Blue' tfsi?! so I don't think the PM's were entirely necessary.............

Anyway back on topic, version 2.0 UK, owner...............Shark_90?????? B) watch this space.

Dont take it personally, it was just a general reminder to all and not aimed at you ;)

I have just tested reporting a PM and seems to work fine, if you get a failled message send it on to one of the Admins and we will look into it.

Ben to be honest i wouldn't bother.

Maybe you wouldn't, but it's more a case of "look what we can do" than anything else. And a hell of a talking point.

Ahh

Didn't know you was going to use it as a marketing tool.

Didn't mean anything by it chap just thought it would be more cost effective with the Superb

but a superb is always going to be a superb. even with 500Hp, and 4wd, its still a luxury saloon and thus will not be sporty, unless you change the suspension which would be plain stupid because surely the whole reason for owning superb is for luxury and comfort. Plus i reckon you would look like a bit of a t!t with a beefy exhaust on a superb.

at least the vRS is sporty from the offset

I disagree there Sy.

You don't have to put a huge exhaust on it. The Superb 3.6 V6 looks fine (to me anyway) so I would imagine the 2.0 will be sportyish.

I wouldn't need to change the suspension as I don't do track days. So a nice luxury saloon with some serious grunt is where it's at for me. Plus with 4wd I could still manage a Brisk drive down some B-Roads if I wanted.

I've driven a 3.6 and the suspension on that was perfectly fine for me. If I was to do anything Id probably lower it. Bit it's a big if.

There ain't much cosmetic difference externally with a normal Octavia and a vRS (wheels, exhaust, body coloured bumper strips, 10mm lower etc) so it wouldn't be too difficult to make it look sporty if you really wanted too.

The idea behind the superb for me would be the stealth approach.

Also Audi/BMW/Mercedes manage to turn ordinary estates into 500+bhp machines and you wouldn't say they look daft with big exhausts!

crazy would like to see proof and see how long it keeps going, i am having my Subaru WRX turned into a 500 bhp monster and the cost of doing that (and making sure it keeps going ) is crazy way more than the cost of a brand new car. with a subru you have loads of parts from the WRC cars to help build it strong. interesting tho

I'd be happy to forgo some comfort in a Superb...

The way to go is to take a 4x4 turbo Octy & mod that but you will need deep pockets, on my Mk 1 Octy I spent twice the amount I paid for the car tuning it but ended up with a very fast reliable car that I could happily rag without reliability issues & as some know it became quite well known on the early cannonballs.

If you have the inclination & funds it really is worth doing

I'd be happy to forgo some comfort in a Superb...

I went to look at the Superb when it was released, I was in ore when the salesman showed me the boot, what put me off was the 163 year old great, great, great grandad returning from his test drive  but after seeing this low rider my opinion has changed again. From the red on the number plate I would guess that its from Belgium, not surprised tbh, I work at the tunnel and see loads of heavily modded VAG motors by the so called boring nation! Considering how low he's got it, the ground clearance still looks reasonable...................

Yes, it is from Belgium. Yes, I agree, the Belgiques are showing some really nice cars. B)

I wonder if tuning is cheaper in Belgium.

Might have to do some enquiries

Watch this space indeed.. once my Audi is back on the road then the wallet-emptying project will commence!

PS. Anyone want a remap, I need to sell a few! :giggle:

What's currently on offer to tempt us....? ;)

  • 7 years later...

Hello all,

It's been a long time since nobody discussed on this topic so I am bringing it back to attention.
I have an Octavia 2 RS TDI Hatchback(2007), which currently has 235HP (with GTB1756VK turbo) and I am starting to work on transforming it in a 4x4.

I have bought the JLR 4x4 gearbox and the transfer box at a more than reasonable price, and in the next weeks I will look for the rest of stuff.

Will keep you updated with the progress. From my point of view almost everything should be plug and play, excepting the spare tire place which will need some 'chopping'.

Wish you all a Merry Christmas! :D

Welcome to the forum.

What JLR gearbox and transfer box have you bought, from which vehicle with what engine?

The gearbox is from a VW golf 5 with BMM engine. I am sure it will fit on my BMN as BMM has same mounting points with bkd and others. Also i found that JLR was fitted also on octavia 2 4x4 with bkd engine. Next task for me is to find the rear part including haldex, diesel tank, and abs esp module from a 4x4 at a resonable price.

Small update:

I finally found the rear axel + haldex + diesel tank + driveshaft and bought them, and today I have mounted them on Octy 2 RS.

Remaining tasks: mounting the gearbox, the driveshaft and rebuilding the exhaust pipe.

A Build thread in the Octavia Project section would be good.

  • 2 weeks later...

Here it is...all done

And same in slow motion

I'm liking that, well done!! Have you got any pics of the build? It would be interesting to see what has gone on underneath the car.

Very good. Would also be interested in a build detail/thread if you could... have a petrol vrs but would be very similar.
