NASTY SQEEKY SPRINGY NOISE cornering

Featured Replies

Never thought I'd be saying this but my car sounds like an old matress!!

it's a really annoying sound and is coming mostly when cornering. had the car at a garage little while back and amongst other things was told I needed to replace the rear bushes on w/b so I presume this is where the noise is coming from. Just checking if I should rule anything else out aswel!?!

This sounds familiar

I have a similar sound, nasty metallic graunching sound, especially when turning right at same time as going over bumps/undulations

I initially thought rear bushes (skoda quoted £250 to sort these), I finally took it to an independent skoda/vw garage (DSB in Nottingham) who advised me that the actual problem is a broken rear spring on the left hand side.

He reckons it'll be about an hours labour plus 1 spring.

Worth getting it checked out by someone who knows what they're talking about

To be honest, that does sound more like a broken spring, as lard-ajc was saying.

My vrs and the toledo before both had the same problem. You can heard it clunking when cornering or when turning the wheel when doing manouevering. It was the offside front spring which had gone on both of the cars.

It will more than likely be broken at the top of the strut, where all the mud and salt collects and rusts it through.

It's worth doing the bushes too (rear wishbone and arb ones), not that hard a job if you have a hydraulic press or a big vice.
