'55' VW Polo query

Featured Replies

Evening all,

My brother has a VW Polo 2005 / 55 plate and has noticed this button on the dashboard with a flashing red light on it. He put a message onto another board to try and find out what this button was for. In return he got what he describes as "about 50 facetious replies" carrying suggestions ranging from "its the warp drive" ( :giggle: ) to it being a button to reset the alarm (not true: my brother tried it). Also the handbook does not advise as to what this button is for either.

Here is a picture I managed to get: the button in question is the one that the arrow is pointing to.

Anyone out there have any ideas on the purpose of this? Ideally the correct answer please but anything funny will be welcome.

Cheers,

Dave

It's not standard, I can tell you that much. Alarm?

It's HAL ..... and he won't open the pod bay doors. :p

Looks to me like some aftermarket immobiliser or alarm system.

I agree, it does look like an aftermarket immobiliser or alarm

that's what i would think, aftermarket alarm light, so you can see when it's on.

Think the suggestions of an aftermarket alarm seem to fit especially if it flashes on and off like the LED's on a car door to show its armed.

Has it got parking sensors at all? only ask as my mums Avensis has a similar green button around the same area to turn on/ off the front parking sensors.

Odd place to put it.

To avoid all that work, my aftermarket alarm lamp was a simple insert job into a spare slot in the Fabia switch panel. Far easier.

Looks like original equipment to me. Is it a headlight offset button - is this polo a european personal import ?

It's for the rockets.

If it helps - My fathers work Polo '55' plate doesn't have it.... I presume it's as above and an aftermarket alarm.

Is the keyfob standard? Did the car come with any other 'alarm' information?

Have you got a sunroof?

Ejector seat?
