UK iPad Prices revealed

Featured Replies

Finally the prices have been revealed by Apple and guess what

We get shafted again compared to out American Friends

Prices are as Follows:

Wifi only Model

16GB = £429

32GB = £499

64GB = £599

Wifi + 3G Model

16GB = £529

32GB = £599

64GB = £699

We seem to be paying between £80 - 130 more depending on Model :swear: :swear: :swear:

But it won't put me off. My order goes in on Monday :party: :party: :thumbup: :thumbup:

Defo not getting a 3G one as Orange have released their tariffs (no doubt O2 & Vodafones will be similar) and are charging:

Also you can pay £40 for unlimited 3G. So on top of a £44 p/m iPhone contract sorry but not worth it in my opinion. :wonder: :wonder:

But at least i have something to look forwards to in 20 days which is when they are released

I must be missing something with these following the sales in america but what is the point?

I don't see what it does over the tablet pc's that were out 5 years ago other than a slightly slicker interface and being thinner? and thrn they had the option of full funcionality of a laptop.

Best start selling body parts now then.....

For me the point is as follows

Rather than carry around my laptop, external drive, mouse, remote contol and associated cables I am getting an iPad to be the bit of IT that I take away.

There are no Mobile signals in Helmand Province so don't need 3G. Also I can load a lot of films and all my music negating he need to take my iPhone away.

I also read a lot of books as you can expect spending 6 months in a dusty sh!t hole. So rather than carry 15-20 books with me I can have these loaded onto my iPad thus saving weight which means I can carry more bullets and as far as I'm concerned that's a good thing.

Granted if I spent my life in the comfort of the UK or other westernised country where all the modern creature comforts we are all used to exist then yes there would be no point having one to add to the 2 MacBook Pro's I already have.

But as I spend a lot of time away and my creature comforts are what I can carry then for me personally it has a lot of use

Sympathies for the followers of Apple whose lives from now on will be void of meaning till they've spent another fortune on top of what they already paid for their MacBooks, iPhones, iPods... ;)

What a rip off! I've just spent a week on an Apple Server course and it was held at an Apple Reseller and Repair centre and no one there could see the point of them either although there was one there and looked cool!

I agree with vRSCarls point though of being handy for a situation like that but there are plenty of alternatives on the market at the moment.

I'm off to America on Monday for a couple of months so I will check out the prices. I also travel quite a bit like vRSCarl and will be visiting the tourist hotspot of Helmand in September.

US prices are excluding taxes and UK prices include VAT, so that's going to be 17.5% of the US price added to get to the UK price before anything else.

Also they are priced according to a £ to $ value expectation. Since apple is based in USD land, then when selling in GBP they will factor in an amount to cope with small changes of currency rate, based on their pre decided (not current market) rate.

And this is exactly what jobs expects, so when people go it's cr*p/expensive, but I'll buy it anyway, they know they can put the price up.

I also have to say I don't see the point at all. I know you say about the books and the music, but an e-book reader is much better for books, because the batteries last thousands of page turns with no power used unless changing page. They are also most likely less fragile and the iPad with it's LCD display.

I'd have thought an e-book and something like a 16GB flash iPod would be both cheaper and more practical.

Obviously just my opinion and you're obviously of the opinion that it suits your needs.

All the reviews etc I have read have worked out the price including an average of US Tax which apparently can vary from state to state

So we still pay more than what anyone does in America.

As for it not putting me off buying one - as most people do they live within their means. I have explained my reason behind wanting one as it makes perfect sense for my personal situation.

I bet you have bought something yourself that you believed was overpriced but because you wanted/needed it you got it anyway.

With regards ebook readers you can't watch films on them or play music so why have an ebook reader, iPhone and something to play movies on which would be my laptop when I can carry it all in one device. Also the screen of the iPad will be no more fragile than an ebook reader or laptop.

Try and rationalise buying an iPad and most people would talk themselves out of it. It's just too much into decent laptop £ territory for most people.

I used one last week, a mate at work had brought one back from the USA, it really is a super slick device for all it's shortcomings. Amusingly, all the nay-sayers at work who had been slating the device since it was announced couldn't get enough of it.... For me, if it was £300-odd I might be tempted, but £429 for the 16GB (really you'd want the 32GB minimum) it's just too expensive.

At the end of the day though it's shiny, it's got the cool factor and it's apple so people will buy it.

Andthere will be a Louis Vuitton iPad sleeve on the market next year too, priced at reasonable £250 :rofl: :rofl: :rofl:

Think i'll probably get one, only question is should I stretch for the 3G version.

My Dad is moving to the US in the next couple of months so I won't be paying the 50+ quid UK premium
