Well when I was younger I used to 'pore' over Mayfair magazine quite regularly, but car magazines never got me excited in that fashion

Yeh, my friend's mother said "so you can afford a BMW now" when she got into my Octavia vRS. I'm never sure to be proud or embarrased when they say this (as I'm not really interested in any BMW that doesn't carry an M in the name).

Citroen c4 1.6hdi v focus1.6tdci v octy 1.9tdi. The write up started "all it needs is a different badge.Or does it?" !!! good write up though

OK I suppose, it was more of an effort to beat the Golf, Astra and MK5 Golf than a citreon and possibly old focus.

Funnily, just over a year ago (when I was looking at what to buy), turned up outside the local Skoda dealer and started walking over to the front door. A bunch of lads, probably aged between 12-15 said (in the "jokey" way that young lads do, today) "...wouldn't buy a Skoda, mate, they're carp (sic)..."

First thing that went through my mind was "...hmmm...how the hell would YOU know? VW have been producing Skodas for about as long as you've been alive..."

I was at the car wash recently and the boy was complimenting my Furby.

I was talking to him and explaining all of the good points of the car. I then told him that if you own one you need to be prepared for a fair amount of ribbing.

The responmse from the 18 year old boy who spends his day washing prestige cars?

'Why would you get slagged about this car?'

I honestly believe that the predujuice exists maily amoungs middle class middle aged people - and (unfortunately) attractive females in their 20s and 30s!!

I'm a badge snob I only drive Skoda's :D:D:D:thumbup:

Well i have had a lot of good cars in the past, but have never had so many positive comments as since i got my VRS. Speaks for itself really.

I've had 2 Octy vRS'sss and racked up about 35k miles in them without so much as a blown bulb. I've been on the receiving end of a fair bit of ribbing from my mates and one in particular for having a Skoda although deep down he really likes the car. Anyway, he decides to buy a 12 month old Passat 1.8T and within the first month has been back to the dealer for a faulty lambda sensor, internal water leaks and defective paintwork. Needless to say it's me who's having the last laugh......nuff said ;)

my dad thought my vRS was a beemer when we went to look at it pre purchase... i rolled my eyes and said nothing.

all i seem to get now is admiring glances from the youths that see it... SWMBO likes it which must be a bonus seeing as she's mid twenties... ;)

I'm 35 and grew up hearing (and telling) Skoda jokes....and lets be honest some were bloody funny. However, now I am older and wiser and I know what I know and other peoples 'opinions' neither offend me or interest me. If anything, I relish the fact that I own a Skoda because those in the know recognise a good car when they see it, and those that dont....dont. I have had the comments about it being "a Skoda??" but they have been outnumbered considerably by peoples admiration of it. Best of all, sitting in traffic and seeing admiring glances from other motorists is a real buzz....them in thier mundane Mondeo's or ten a penny Peugeots, while I am in a (relatively) rare car. IMHO you can keep Beamers/Audis/Scoobys etc because I am proud to drive something that, as the years go by, will eventually become desirable by all.

We should all feel smug about this, because we will be able to say....."I told you so".
