thanks for the reply, i have a vag scanner myself and no engine fault codes come up, I have been looking at the search bit and noticed that the MAF sensor could be faulty and could do with a clean using electrical cleaning spray?? is this right?

The engine is going into limp mode, a safety mode that cuts the power output but lets you get home. You need to get this scanned with VCDS somehow and post the results file on here buddy.

Does the car belch out much smoke?

I just scanned my car again and two codes have come up regarding the problem, 1st

po299 kwp2000 .....turbocharger/supercharger underboost.

second code which is related... 16683 -80 KWP2000 .... boost pressure regulation not reached.

so is it just the boost that needs turning up, is this an easy task???

No the car does not belch out much smoke only when you floor it :smirk:

underboost? Only ever had a problem with overboost, can only suggest the check hoses.

thankyou for the reply, how do you check the hoses are they under the turbo and what do i look for ??

The hoses you need to check go to the airbox, there's one in particular that if not attached properly cuts the turbo out, so check them all, iirc, it's the one that goes to a T-Piece from the rear of the engine. hth.

16683/P0299/000665 - Boost Pressure Regulation: Control Range Not Reached

Possible Symptoms

Reduced Power Output

Limp Mode

Possible Causes

Hoses/Pipes incorrect connected, disconnected or leaking

Charger Pressure Control defective

Possible Solutions

Check Hoses/Pipes to/between Components

Check / Clean / Replace Charge Pressure Control

Special Notes

When found in 2.0l TFSI:

Check Boost Pressure Control Valve (N249), for cracked rubber diaphragm. A new/optimized Valve is available under Part # 06F-145-710-G (or newer), see TPI 2016331 for details.

i would suspect a broken pipe

i would suspect a broken pipe

or a crack in the intercooler? Sounds like you're losing air, man.

Common fault, usually throws up 5 fault codes. If boost comes back in when you switch it off and on again its probably not the MAF. The normal dealer reply is "you need a new turbo" . FIRST check all pipework to the control valves as said it other posts. Then swap out the control valve with a know good one and see how it goes. Philip

Also check the wiring under the air box, we had the same problem and the wiring had fused together, remedy cut out bad bit and use new wire to join up and solder all joints and insulate well, symptoms similar to a MAF not operating IE no power

I don't know anything about turbos (hmm - so why am I posting this?) but just an observation - Recon turbo? 3000 miles ago? Take it back to who fitted it, or was it DIY? Any chance the remap can effect a turbo?
