Connecting a Wii to the internet?

Featured Replies

Ok, just a quick question?

We have a Wii and Broadband, How do i connect them both together?

Answers in a non technical terms would be appreciated

Many thanks.

It's been a while since I set one up, but there is a wireless setup menu on the Wii, if you follow the prompts it should connect to your wireless router...

I remember having major problems getting it to connect even though I knew the settings and passphrase were correct. If I remember correctly I had to set the wireless on the router to b/g compatability mode to allow the Wii to connect. The router had originally been setup to g only

Hope this helps

Everything seems ok but not connecting to the router so will see about changing the compatability mode, is that just a case of switching a switch, i have a netgear router.

Usually you have to go into the router itself and change settings on it that way.

To do this, you either need to type 192.168.2.1 or 192.168.1.1 into firefox/ IE. If it's not one of those, click Start -> Run. In Run, type in 'cmd', then when that opens, type in 'ipconfig'. Depending upon the operating system, you should see something that looks like this (this is from Windows 7, connected with Wifi);

C:\Users\Joe>ipconfig

It's the red line you want, the default gateway address (the address of your router). It's that that you'll need to type into the browser if either of the top two don't work.

You will then the prompted for a user name/ password, which unless stated on the router as anything else, should be admin and admin, or admin and password (unless you've changed it before hand).

Then just keep going through the options until you see something like 'Wireless mode', and make sure B/G is selected (although I think that's the default mode anyway).

Well i finally got round to trying to get it to work, router was set to b/g. All i keep getting is error code 51330 from the wii.

Will have to look to see what it means :(

Does your router need to be in pairing mode?

Is the Wii picking up the correct encryption type. My router uses WPA2 and I think the Wii was trying WPA until I forced it to use the right setting

Sorry for the long time responding, been away for a weeks Hols.

Will try and have a play again soon,

Just one question, can you use the Wii to surf the net? ie watch iplayer.

which is the main reason for trying to connect.

You can now watch 'iplayer' on the Wii with the latest firmware.
