No panoramic sunroof

Thats easy for those owners with sunroofs to sit back and say whats the fuss about, but its not you going into a showroom and being told you cant have the car you want ? Typical selfish attitude of some folk "well im alright sod everyone else". Didnt realise the election meant that people couldnt have an opinion in such a forum like this anymore. I suppose you are sick of those going on about MPG and headlights as well ?, in fact I dont know why you bother coming on here if the thread is getting boring, go back to the arrogant section of the forum and wallow in there !

I've just been to McDonalds for a McFlurry and they've sold out!

This is disgusting, don't they know it's sunny. Apparently they've run out of Milk!

I'm going to write to Hamburgler and his clown mate and tell them to buy more cows!

I'm also going to call watchdog, they're bound to run an article on this!

I can't believe McD's are still advertising McFlurrys on their website! Someone will pay for this.

They could have at least offered me a frozen burger to suck on!

Whoa, where do you get the idea that my Yeti has a sunroof? My Yeti has suffered the glitch with the Xenons but that's all been sorted and I'm quite content about the MPG. What gets rather boring is that clearly Skoda have a supply problem due to the unexpectedly high demand for cars with sunroofs. That's not me being arrogant, it's a fact of life that we cannot always have what we want when we want it.

BTW where does the election come into all of this. There again the coalition governement seems to be expected to perform miracles - give Dave or Nick a ring and see if they can find some sunroofs

You make interesting comments, some of which I'll simply ignore!

I'm certainly not saying you can't have an opinion, in fact I totally respect your right to have one, just as I'm sure you respect mine.

My Yeti doesn't have a sunroof.

When I went into the showroom to buy a new Yeti, I didn't want to wait 8 to 10 weeks for it to be built, I wanted it sooner, if not there and then. I could have a car there and then with some other less popular models.

I could have kicked up a fuss or gone to buy something different. I suppose I could have gone to trading standards and demanded to know why I couldn't be supplied with a product that was being advertised.

I didn't. I accepted that the Yeti is hugely popular and that Skoda do not build up huge stocks of vehicles to sit in showrooms or in fields as used to happen once upon a time.

I accepted that I had three choices, wait for the exact spec I wanted, walk away or what I did do, buy their demo car.

If it turns out that the third-party supplier of this part cannot match demand, why is that Skoda's fault? Has it not been said earlier that Skoda have increased capacity at their plants to bui;ld more Yetis to try to keep up with demand?

In fairness to Skoda, I don't expect anyone felt the 4 x 4 market in this country was huge given the criticisms of 4 x 4s from the environmental lobby. And then we had the worst winter for decades and suddenly 4 x 4s were popular again. Well done Skoda for having a small-ish, economical 4 x 4 available. Shame that you couldn't predict that the weather would change market trends.

Very true John, my complaint to Skoda (as I originally started this thread so It's mine) my complaint is, it's the supply of glass thats causing the slowing down of sunroof production. Just source some more glass to rectify this.

After discussing the Yeti with the wife we have decided to go for the non-sunroof version.

If anyone wants a Yeti WITH a panoramic sunroof, I know a dealer who has a brand new one ready for sale in manual. (we're after an auto.

Its a 2.0litre turbo deisel DSG (170hp)

Not sure of the other specs but if anyone is seriously interested send me a PM. (and I will put you in touch with the dealer

I'm sure Skoda would love to do that. But I'm guessing that sunroof glass is a more "technical" product than regular window glass - needing specialised laminates and coatings. With the way manufacturing has outsourced more and more, I'd be surprised if there were more than a handful of manufacturers producing the basic product that is then taken by the sunroof builders. Sometimes you just have problems getting supplies. Sucks, but that's life.

Now, Skoda could have handled the situation better, I'm sure. They should have had better dealer communications, been more upfront with news abouts delays, possibly even offered additional discounts to customers who have had to remove a sunroof from their spec. While some people would still have been disgruntled, I'm sure it would have done good things for their reputation over the longer term. Perversely, handling a problem well can often do MORE good for a company's reputation than if nothing went wrong in the first place...

Unfortunately, big companies tend to be spectacularly bad at these sorts of things. You have to wonder just what the senior managers are being paid for, sometimes. :-)

Just for some perspective, things are LOT worse if you are in the market for a new Morgan. Current lead time for a new car is around ONE YEAR. And take a look at their terms and conditions - no guarantee that the trim/spec you might want will be available at the time of build. And no guarantee that the price won't go up - and you have to pay the price in effect when you GET the car, not when you ORDER it !!

Hi again,

the TDI DSG is defiantly in 140 4x4 mode only, this link to a Skoda CZ PDF lists all available engines that are currently fitted and those to be available (or replaced; 170 CR 1st generation) from WK22 (2011 model year I believe).

Wow! I go away for a few days amongst the splendid driving tactics of the italians (I'm sure those from there that are are Briskodans will agree!) and the cold has gone and the sun returned. With it the thought of snow chains has melted and with it Watchdog will take up on a story about the new coalition government banning sunroofs on YETIs. Surely that is against EU law...

The YETI sunroof is great. The sunroof in my YETI is great. But I waited for mine and am not disappointed. Like Giles I make as much use of it as possible. BUT. And it's a huge BUT - the sunroof is but one part of the YETI. I'm sorry, but I really cannot believe that anyone is only buying a YETI because if the sunroof option. If there was no sunroof available on the YETI would I have still bought it - of course I would. No sunroof available on a YETI so I'll go and buy a Qashqai. Yeh right...

I wanted a CR170 YETI from when they YETI was first announced. I even went over to Geneva for the launch at the motorshow of the YETI - 6 months before I could even place an order for mine. When the YETI came out in the UK, similar to the DSG and 1.4TSI options, I couldn't order a CR170 at that time. What did I do? I waited - the option otherwise was to order a CR140.

Do you really think that Watchdog will follow up a new car option being too successful that demand was outstripping demand and people may have to weight 6 months?

Skoda and their roof supplier have obviously been caught out by the success of the sunroof in the same way that you can't go and order a complete YETI tomorrow and have it delivered in a few days time. It's a pain, but not worth fighting over.

Patience, dear Briskodan friends is a virtue...

PS It is bl**dy good though, that sunroof.... emoticon-0105-wink.gif

PPS Like the CR170 DSG bit though - bit like that dealer that swore blind they had a CR170 in stock as a demo when Skoda hadn't built any.... emoticon-0136-giggle.gif

Edit - In case anyone is still reading and as I can't find a relative Xenon thread - mine has had new headlamp controllers fitted by Allams and now they do the automatic thing as advertised - if you want it to do it! So as others have said, it appears to be a reliable fix for the one-eyed snag. emoticon-0144-nod.gif

Sorry TP, the link did not work exactly as I had intended, have a look at the engine variants for the Yeti and it does indeed show a 2.0littre diesel TDI CR 4x4 which now is available in an automatic

Would be interested in seeing the full link to mention of the 170 TDi DSG in the Yeti. I have checked both Skoda.co.uk and Skodaauto.com and they only mention 140TDi DSG. But I may have missed it!

Same here, must be still hung over from G & T emoticon-0136-giggle.gif but I'm 99% sure there is only the 140 in TDI form to be equipped with the DSG. Production should start week after next (WK22/10).

Oh Ants this made my day! Spot on.

My gripe is not with SUK or the normal chance of delays about this and that but is about the silence I have to endure from my dealer about the whole issue. Had I not been left in the dark I'd happily just sit back and wait the five months for my car.

And to reply to something else: would I have bought a Yeti sans sunroof? No. I would have kept my A2. Easy as that. I've had him for nine years and am perfectly happy with him. So the only things that got me even considering another car was a sunroof that can open and rear seats that can be left at home. The other bonus things I'm getting with a Yeti are just that: bonusses. Don't get me wrong if the Cashcow or any other softroader had had these two features I would still pick a Yeti over them for sure as the Yeti's bonusses are hard to ignore when you look at the big picture.

  • 2 weeks later...

I wish I'd found this site weeks ago ! On Saturday 6th March I ordered a Yeti 1.2 DSG in Aqua Blue with Panoramic Sun Roof, Spare Wheel and Sat Nav, plus a few other extras from the Skoda dealership in Cardiff. I was told that after a week or so I would have the production date and the likely delivery date. Since the 6th March I've visited the garage twice and phoned four times to ask when I could expect delivery. I called at the garage again last Tuesday and the new salesman there told me he'd find out and call me. It had now been over twelve weeks! He duly called me as promised and his first words were "I'm afraid I've got some bad news". I was told that because I ordered a sun roof AND a spare wheel this would take the car over the set Co2 emissions and that an error log had been generated which hadn't been picked up by the garage. Therefore the car had not been ordered. You can imagine how angry I felt. They've had my deposit for three months, I've placed my Personal Registration plate on retention (£105) and I've been trying to arrange holidays around the delivery of my new Yeti. I have been given the impression that if I forego the spare wheel then they could place the order for me, although the factory shuts down for three weeks in July, so goodness knows when it would be delivered. They told me I could order a spare wheel later but this would cost me an additional £100. I've suggested to the garage that as they've cocked up big time, they should provide me with a Yeti from now until my car arrives and I'm waiting for a response from a director on Monday morning. For curiosity sake, I phoned a Skoda garage today in Nottingham, and I was told that Skoda UK had advised all of their retailers months ago that there was a problem with the sunroof/spare wheel combination, so it makes me feel even worse that since March I've been waiting for NOTHING!. From other posts on this forum it seems though, that they can't obtain the sunroofs from their suppliers. Which is true? I'm going to phone Skoda UK om Monday morning to find out the "official" version. Will keep you posted.

Oh Glamorgan I feel for you. I'm over the moon for having had access to this site from about two weeks before I ordered. The people on here have helped a great deal on so many levels. I ordered on the 6th of April ( with a sunroof ) and still don't have a build week. So join the club.

Good luck.

Hi glamorgan,

Sorry to hear of your problems with the order.

Hope you get some kind of 'express' delivery from SUK - the situation with the Co2 is similar to when I bought my Kia Ceed SW. I opted for 17" wheels, a supplied option, only to find that when it was delivered the Co2 rating had changed?

It seems strange that you can buy a car and then change wheels etc. add extra items and the log book, emissions etc, remain unchanged.

Best of luck - from others reports it's worth the wait.

ernieb

No you will find each option has a weight next to it. My A2 options brochure was great for this. My sunroof was 35kg extra and my BOSE sound 6kg or so for example. These get tallied up on your V5C document to give the actual vehicle weight. I'm not sure how and when they decide to take it up in terms of CO2 to the next bracket. But look in the new Yeti brochure at the petrol and diesel DSG cars. The 1,2 engined cars are both in the same CO2 bracket yet the diesel has them in different brackets. So the 1,2 DSG must be right at the limit of allowable optional weight.

In my view SUK should just have a standard system in place where you can order whatever options you like and you are told at order time the tax bracket implications - ie your 1,2 DSG will move up to a higher bracket. You can then take it or leave it there and then. But to just generate an error code somewhere and not telling the customer is really, really a spectacularly awful way of doing business. And SO easily solved by just having the system tell the salesman at order time.

Edit: added a link to the A2OC and a post I did there in 2003 stating all the weights of the options. Anyone have access to the same for the Yeti?

Oh that's not good I can only imagine your frustration with the situation. I hope they can sort something out for you. Meanwhile, build weeks are subject to change. I ordered my 1.2 TSi SE , storm blue with sunroof on April 10. Even with the sunroof problems, I was given a build week of 32, but this has now slipped to week 39. The dealer tells me its the sunroof causing the problem, I would be given an earlier build week if I took the sunroof off the order. But, I'm holding out for the roof, might get it before christmas!

Hi glamorgan and welcome to the forum.

I don't know abot the sunroof/s[are wheel combination, but the sunroofs were removed as an option from 27th April.

Existing customers who had ordered a sunroof before that date were contacted to see if they were prepared to remove the sunroof as an option in order to get their SMs' earlier and to assist in easing the situation.

Good luck with your SM (snow monster)

They are GREAT and unique vehicles

Shall we just say that White Dove don't have the best reputation over sales, having seen some postings in the Dealerships section on here. It might be worth talking to Trading Standards as I think they have been telling a pile of porkies to you.
