MFD3 Sat Nav RNS 510 On Ebay - Shall I sharn't I?!..

Featured Replies

I've been watching this Sat Nav on ebay and had talked myself into bidding on it if it stays at a reasonable price.

I'm a bit of a mug when it comes to ebay and often get stung. Now I can see this guy doesn't have any positive feedback, but can anyone else spot anything wrong with the listing or the unit?

I may have mugged myself again here, if one of you lot decide to out bid me lol.

ask him questions about how long he's had it and where it came from and then why is he getting rid of it.

he has been a member for 1 month with no previous accounts.

Pay with a debit or credit card and your protected, if it does not work claim your money back, but let the seller pay for the return postage by arranging for then to get it picked up, make sure the code is with it

Your going to have to bid up to £300 but let ebay do it for you with 1 min to go

Who won it then, anyone on here ?

It came from a write off, he's got/had other Octy bit on ebay to back up the story, so I was prepared to take a risk....

Doesn't have a code mind you and no word on it having been tested before removal.

A snip at less than £300, I thought I nearly had it until I was outbid in the last few seconds..... Wasn't meant to be.

It's mine all mine !

Comes with maps and code (so he tells me). If not then Paypal claim will be lodged. I presume if it doesn't have a code as promised then it's just a paperweight ?

Just need a car to put it into now !

Well done, you using some fancy biding thingy on ebay then ? I'm sure it was about 4 seconds before it said I'd been outbid.

I asked about the code too, but he said he wasn't sure and would need to check the books.... If it was out of an 09 plate, then I wouldn't have thought

there would be a key code card with it, not unless it was retrofitted by the owner....

Hope there is a code and all is ok with the unit.

If he listed that the code was there, he could have got a lot more for it...

If there wasn't a code should I still get it ? I've asked him again to clarify and await his reply. Can I get the code from Skoda ?

No mention of the GPS antenna?

I'm sure Skoda will be able to supply the code, but not sure how much they'd charge and would probably ask questions on the source

of the unit.

He usually replies pretty quickly and he was unsure of the code when I asked, but I'd imagine he has checked by now and wouldn't have thought he said he had it, if he didn't...

Just noticed that you have an new Octy on order, did you check that the PN is compatable with your car as this unit looked like and older one without the "columbus" logo on it. IF its an older one, then it may need a firmware update to work in your car.

The GPS antenna is easy enough. Another £10 should get you one on Ebay with the right connector.

Have you taken delivery of your car yet ? Thats one way to test if it'll work.... I think this was a 1Z0 unit, but I've read that a firmware update will

bring it upto date ok.

Don't have the car yet, another 8 weeks or so. I'm guessing as long as I have the security code anything else can be sorted post install.

So was this swiped from under the OP's nose because he posted this thread?

Nope, I knew nothing about this thread until AFTER the auction.

Try it first, if it needs a code go to one of those places that can get it wont cost much

The car stores a single radio code, so if you take your radio out and put the same one back, it won't ask for the code, as it already knows it.

I would however imagine that it'll ask for a code when you put it into your car, a different car.

I'm not sure how cheap getting a code would be. There are a few listings on Ebay for code retrieval, but I emailed one seller first thing this morning asking if

they could get a code for a Skoda unit, but they said they could only get VW ones...... I'm guessing they can access a VW database, but not any other of

the VAG offspring.

If your looking at going to Skoda to get the code, then it may be easier to ask the seller about the car it came from and see if there is any acknowledgment

from the DVLA that the car has been written off.

I'm sure one of the sellers in Europe could sort you out given the number they sell on ;-)

I'd look into getting a code for the radio before making a decision.

Looks like you'll have to go through with the sale, as nowhere in the ad does it mention the code issue, so it's probably too late to back out without his agreement

As ever with ebay, the phrase "let the buyer beware" comes to mind

Also, from a personal point of view, I'd never risk buying anything from someone with no feedback. I know everyone has to start somewhere, but I wouldn't be the one to take the plunge

If I was him I'd be a bit p*ssed, and probably leave negative feedback, but for you it's saved you £282 and all the potential problems

He originally told me he had the code. If Skoda can't help I will contact Ebay and let them know.
