He didn't reply to me in time so I didn't bother bidding in the end. I did think I had been stung though by asking for advice. Are you saying you are not going to buy the unit because you are not sure about the coding? Someone posted an ebay link saying you will need one of these, but the link didn't work for me.

If the coding isn't an issue what else iwould be needed to get this working?

I'd be put off with the coding issue alone.

I made some enquires through an Ebay seller that can source your "lost code" for a VW RNS 510, but I asked and they cannot get

the Skoda codes for the same unit....

I was just speaking to a Skoda dealer there.... was booking my car for work, so asked about radio codes... They can source the code for you,

but you would need:

Radio serial number.... Easy enough.

VIN from car it was fitted to.

Proof of ownership - V5C.

Now, even if the seller can tell you the Reg/VIN of the witten off car, you can't really be certain that the unit was factory fitted, so it might

be a wild goose chase.

No he hasn't offered it to me mate. I was expecting to see it relisted. I used to know a guy who code decode HU's. That was years ago though, I am guessing the technology has advanced some what?

CAN gateway upgrade??? My car is a 57 but was registared on the 1st of Jan 2008? lol

GPS antenna and radio adaptor antenna can be bough seperately I assume? Do the other units on ebay tend to come with these?

My arial has what looks to be a wire wrapped around it, is that not a GPS antenna?

I very much doubt your car will have a GPS antenna fitted unless it came with Sat Nav from the factory. Its fairly straight forward to fit and after market one and Ebay

have them listed for less than £10.

I'm not sure if your CAN gateway will be upto date enough.... Do you have a Vag com lead to scan the car, as the part number of the CAN gateway will show on that.

Think its revision L or above that is ok with the latest firmware.... I know mine def needs replaced.

As far as I'm aware, VW, Skoda etc... don't give any key codes cards and its all dealt with via a database.

Hi the arial is a piece of cake then. I have no idea what revision the software on my ecu is? I don't have a lead either. However, I know someone who does and they might be able to check for me. How do I go about upgrading that if I need to?

With regards to the HU, I may just go for another one with a code. Not being able to decode the unit would be a nightmare!

Just buy another unit "guaranteed" as working and make sure it comes with the code as without it, you've purchased a large brick. Speaking of which, be carefeul upgrading the firmware on second hand units. There are a number of people who've fallen victim to "bricking" their unit.........

GPS antennas are two a penny on ebay so don't worry about that.

The unit will however need to be the correct type to work with the CAN gateway. There is loads of info on here regarding this. I went for an older unit just in case and it works fine....... emoticon-0136-giggle.gif

Good luck.

Ok I'm not really sure about the compatability issues. Are you saying the later HU's just won't work in the older Octavia? I'm going to give this unit a miss. Cheers

Seller was going to email me the serial number this morning.....haven't heard a thing since asking for it. Beware all as he may relist it on Ebay.

If he does give you the serial number then ask if he will give you the vin number too (although unlikely - granted) as, as previously mentioned, this will help you get the code from Skoda I'm sure. You never know mate, this could be the bargain of the century.

i,ll buy it for the price you paid plus postage................... the unit is cheap, dont worry about the code, thats the easy bit!!!!! message me if you change your mind......... cheers mat

You have a number of issues to overcome if you get this unit.

1) the radio code, it will not have come with one as Skoda do not issue them in the cars documents. It does require a code if the unit is moved to a different car to the one it was originally fitted in. Plugging the unit into the car it was originally from will not prompt for a code as the unit is coded to that car.

2) gps aerial, easy this one. Just get a hockey puck one from ebay and mount under the dash panel in the centre. Mounting here it totally invisible but works perfectly.

The biggie is the radio code, skoda will not issue one to you without proof of ownership and the V5 from the car it was from, or a receipt from a skoda dealer for the headunit purchase.

Does 5051 answer your questions? Cheers

I asked the seller again for the serial number, he said he couldn't find it. I then received a request to cancel the transaction from ebay. I'm guessing it will be re-listed soon !

a word of warning lads,i bought a audi sat nav from e-bay last year when i had my audi,it came without a code and i COULD NOT get the code for it and i worked at audi, you need the car reg,vin number and the serial number off the sat nav unit, all info then gets sent to germany to which the code is then sent to the dealer,i assume that skoda are the same here

£469.... :o

At least it comes with the code! emoticon-0144-nod.gif

Funny - I was watching that auction for a while. I sent the seller an email via eBay asking about the GPS antenna, code card etc. and never received a reply...!
