Creaking Sunglasses Holder

Featured Replies

I was convinced that my rattle was from passenger door.... but by being a contortionist while driving I have pinned it down to the sunglasses holder area on the roof (empty!). By pressing lightly it makes a bad creaking noise, just to the left of it. Maybe a clip has broken or there is some contact. So I plan on taking it out to take a look in there. Any idea how to remove this?, I cannot see any screws or anything...

That is so much like what happened to me, I was sure I had a vibration/rattle in the passenger door, but the passenger said it was in my door.

Turned out it was my sunglasses vibrating in the overhead holder.

Panic over, I have answered my own post! - I removed the interior light assembly (2 screws once cover popped off) then had access to the headlining cavity around the sunglasses holder. I pushed some spongy material in there & the whole assembly is firmed up. Also the cables in the void can't vibrate as pinned down by the sponge. No more creaks rattles from there, hopefully...

good post , this happens in mine occasionally , i really does my nut in, but now i know how to sort it. (apart from driving round pushing it to stop the rattle, its not a cool look)

THe one that is doing my head in at the moment is an occasional rattle from the internal rear view mirror - it's the self-dimming one and is rattling internally rather than from the cover over the mount or the wiring tube from the roof.

thank god only your glasses holder is creaking, the whole interior of my car creaks, when driving on rougher rodas,or on sleeping policeman,it's as if the car is flexing and everything in the interior is about to explode.Interior trim is gonna drive me mad ....

Are you sure it is the trim?. Try lubricating all door seals with AutoGlym Vinyl & Rubber care, you may be pleasantly surprised!!

Yeah, could well be a contributing factor.... I've got clean up wipes in the car, whcih I run over the seals ever so often... creaks gone !

Think so?....Will try ....

Wish I had seen this earlier! The car went in today for Skoda to investigate a mysterious ratttle that has been annoying me for weeks...

How foolish did I feel after being told it was my sunglasses rattling in the holder. I have been convinced for weeks that something was loose in the passenger door. I didn't believe it at first but the service receptionist agreed to go out with me and hey presto no rattle.

Bought the autoglym product yesterday, wiped the door rubbers and even the tailgate surround rubber in the eve, drove to work this morning and to my surprise could not hear a single squeek, never thought the noise could come from the seals.First time I drove the car with the radio off, before the noise was unbearable ..... Thank god this forum exists.

My car is booked in with the dealers in a couple of weeks because I can't stand the rattles any longer. I have 1 that comes from my steering column / instrument that seems to go away if I adjust the steering and one that comes from my driver's side somewhere.

Going to try to the door rubber fix before it goes in.

The car was silent at first but the rattles are beginning to creep in now.
